Footy-Netball Club fishing comp

OUR fishing comp is happening this weekend with some of the best conditions we have seen for years. 

This great event caught me by surprise a bit and this is the first time I have mentioned it. 

It will not be stinking hot like it has been in the past. 

It definitely will not be raining. 

It will be in the low 30’s with cloud cover, with bugger all wind. 

But that’s not best bit. 

Our Edward has levelled at Moulamein at the time of writing. 

The Edward has been rising for the last few days below Stevens Weir.

If my calculations are correct, the rise should get here this weekend or just before our comp. 

This should get the fish biting. 

You may have to hide behind a tree to bait your hook. We can only hope. Good luck to all our competitors and well done to our organisers. 

I do not know if this rise is being sent down for our fishing competition or there is a heap of water ordered. 

Either way, thank you to those in charge of the water flow.

Let’s hope the orders are below Moulamein, so it gets here.


Grand final last weekend

OUR Moulamein Divi 1 had the big dance last Saturday at the Swan Hill Bowls Club against top-of-the-table Murray Downs. 

The lead changed quite a few times during the day. Unfortunately, at the end of the day, our team was one rink up, two rinks down.

Down by five shots on the day. Well done to our team for getting there. They say that you have to lose one before you win one. Look out next year. 

Well done to the Swan Hill Bowls Club for putting on a great day. 

There may not have been cream cakes but the sangers were good, the beer was cold, but most importantly, the greens bowled well. A credit to them.

OUR town’s first year of pennant tennis has been very successful as they have managed a grand final appearance. Unfortunately, like our bowlers, the other team played a bit better. Well done for getting there.


Gallery bush sculpture comp

FOR those who think they are pretty handy at sticking steel or any other recycled material together with a welder or any other means, then the Moulamein Gallery’s biannual sculpture competition is for you. 

There is a large freestanding sculpture section, where the creation must be able to be carried by two people. 

This section has a $1000 first prize and a $500 second prize.

There is also a small freestanding sculpture section, with $500 first prize and $250 second prize. This creation cannot anything bigger than a 30cm x 50cm base.

Another per cent for the Murrumbidgee

WE were fortunate enough to get up to 39 per cent of what we own today with another two per cent of allocation announced. 

The price of water has continued to rise in the Murray. 

It will be interesting to see what two per cent more water will do to our Murrumbidgee.


Wind farms falling over

NO, we haven’t had a cyclone out here.

But I think the reality is starting to set in about how many wind farms can put their so-called green energy into the grid. 

A couple of our proposed wind farms will not be going ahead as far as I can find out. 

The lawyers will be lining up to get their share of this stuff up. 

All us locals knew that all of these proposed wind farms could not fit down the line. 

We were told that at the meetings we attended. 

But all these different foreign companies spent hundreds of thousands of dollars, maybe millions to find out the bleeding obvious. 

Only the highest bidders can go ahead. 

Never get between a foreign company and a government subsidy is all I can say. 

The next few months could be very interesting. 

I do not know for sure, but I think the landholder will be lumbered with the job of disposing of these things when their lifespan runs out. 

I am still working on that one and will be asking the question next time I can bring myself to go to a meeting.


River levels

OUR Edward has steadied at just over 1.4 metres and around 1150 megs a day. 

Our Edward is now almost 1700 megs a day below Stevens Weir and still rising. 

This rise should get here for our fishing comp this weekend. Let’s hope this gets them biting.
