You’d think we’re in different countries

Rice Harvest Starts

Our local rice harvest officially started this week with a few of the early birds firing their headers up.

With the weather the way it is, the harvest will get very busy very quickly, I think.


Shane Warne Health Machine

Our Moulamein Bowling Club has this machine for at least the next month or so.

Come in and test yourself.

It’s free and it only takes four minutes.

We have it tucked away in the corner so it is very private.

I had a mate give it a go.

It told her that her heart was 10 years older than her.

She went home and made a doctor’s appointment that afternoon.

I haven’t had a go of it yet.

There could be an automatic dial system in it to call 000 and an ambulance will pull up at the front door.

One day I will give it a go before it gets taken away.


Blackouts For Our District

We had one Sunday evening that stretched out into the middle of the night.

Then there was a second one Monday morning that stretched out well into the afternoon.

This is probably because it’s been so dry and dusty.

The dust settles on the insulators of the main line.

With a shower of rain, the electricity shorts out and sets the crossarm on fire, burns through it and drops the wire, causing the blackout and sometimes fires.

All was stood up again; they sent a chopper down the line just to make sure everything was ok, then bang, our district could get back to normal.

Our council is trying to work in with Victoria so in situations like that, they could send power back up the line from their side of the river to keep things moving.

You would think we were different countries, not just different states sometimes.

Blackouts could be a sign of things to come once we go all green power; only time will tell.


Fire Brigade Busy

Our local fire brigades did have a call out to the powerline fire on Sunday night.

It was put out quickly and our team returned to a fully powered shed.

For future thought, if we have a blackout on a stinking hot day, our Moulamein fire shed has a generator that can power it up in a emergency.

We have plenty of room and a good air conditioner to keep you cool if the power goes out when it is hot.

On Monday night, our members got a call out to a rollover out the road, no fire.

Hopefully, no serious injuries but a Hilux and a trailer a bit worse for wear.

Who Owns The Worn Out Wind Turbines

I asked the question at the Tchelery Wind Farm meeting of who is responsible for getting rid of these things after their lifespan of 30 to 40 years.

‘Us’, they said or whoever owns them by then.

If you ever try to track down who “us” is, good luck with that; there are companies within companies and when it comes to the crunch time there is guaranteed to be a two-dollar-company that is stuck with these alleged green power creations.

I asked them that and they assured me that wouldn’t happen.

By the time they are decommissioned, they told me, the value of the raw materials in each tower should pay to pull them down.

About a thousand tonnes of steel plus plenty of other valuable stuff in them, they told me.

I will be dead by the time they come down, but if I can I will still be keeping an eye on things and I will come back and say “I told you so”.

That’s if everyone ducks for cover and no one owns them.
