A dehydrated paradise

Dehydrated paradise

THAT is the best way to describe our district. Just add water and it goes from a desert to green in less than a week.

My place looks that much like a paradise now, I keep expecting Adam and Eve to walk out from behind the salt bushes.

Football/netball away this week

THE mighty Swans played Ultima at home last week.

The game went down to the wire. There was a great crowd there with more $3000 taken at the gate.

I decided to get a hot dog at the start of the Magoo’s and then take over the goal umpiring at half-time.

Saw the canteen was busy so I gave them a hand. I didn’t get my hot dog until the start of the seniors, we were that busy in there.

Thanks EJ for umpiring the whole game. Well done to all the volunteers in the canteen. We got the multitudes fed.

We are away to Macorna this week. Good luck to our mighty Swans.

Sowing in full swing

EVERYWHERE you look there is dust getting stirred up in the day time and headlights going after dark to get our winter crops in.

We were some of the fortunate ones for a change to get rain when not many others in our district did.

The moisture is disappearing fast so we need to get it in as quickly as possible.

Don’t forget about us, Huey, we would like you to visit again.

Water prices staying up

BECAUSE we got rain, we all expected the water price to come down.

I went for a drive to visit the rug rats yesterday.

There is still plenty of water getting used between here and Cobram.

The price per megalitre at the moment is almost $300 on both systems.

I will try and forget that when I use the last few ML this week to grow a bit of feed.

We only ended up with only 39 per cent of what we own on the Murrumbidgee this year.

Those on the New South Wales Murray were fortunate enough to get 110 per cent of what they own.

This is the new crazy world of water.

Sculpture competition

OUR Moulamein gallery’s bi-annual sculpture competition is coming up quicker than you know it.

This great event will be happening on the King’s Birthday long weekend.

There are thousands of dollars up for grabs.

The sculptures do not have to be welded. Any recycled material will get you into the competition.

I have one half made and several in my head that just have to be weld together. Next week, I keep telling myself.

Be sure to get yours done as next week can very quickly turn into last week and you will miss out. More details next week.

River levels

THE Edward River has been dropping and will continue to do so.

There is about 1600 megalitres going past us at the moment keeping the level at around 1.8 metres.

There is only half that coming past Stevens weir at 800ML a day.

Check your boats. Check you pumps as the level will be very ordinary in a week or so.
