Skills to help rescue

Road crash training this weekend

WHILE there is no footy or netball, we have a two-day training course on tomorrow and Sunday.

For those that want to be qualified, and it will be a refresher course for those of us already trained.

If you would like to have a look, we will be training behind our cemetery.

You are welcome to come out and see if this stuff interests you.

Thank you to those that have donated cars and utes to be cut up.

We still need more for future training.

Extras just sit over to the side until we can use them.

We always need more members if you want to step up.

Please call our policeman

WITH the recent spate of things going missing in town and dark figures being seen in backyards, as well as evidence of someone walking through houses when they are not home, even the smallest thing should be reported to our local policeman.

If you do not need the sirens, do not ring Triple Zero. That number is for emergencies only.

If you just want to talk to the police, please call 13 14 44. Put this number in your phone for future reference. It could come in handy.

The more reports our Moulamein policeman gets, the more he can do about it. Call it in.

Let’s nip this in the bud and get the scum buckets that are doing this out of town or locked up.

The owner of the custom-made trailer that was recently taken out of his backyard has increased the reward to $10,000 for its return. No questions asked.

That might get a few tongues wagging.

Op shop to close

THE Moulamein Op Shop has run out of time in their current premises.

They would like thank Murray River Council for the extended lease on their current premises. The lease was for 10 years.

Our op shop has been there 14 years rent free.

All good things must come to an end.

Our op shop ladies cannot afford to pay rent. It’s a community service that raises a few extra dollars for Moulamein Bush Nurse Centre.

If you want an even better bargain, now would be the time to visit as they are having a closing down sale. It will be getting closed down this weekend.

Our op shop mob are looking for a bit of help on Sunday to help pack up.

After 60 years of operation, our beloved op shop may have to close.

They are still investigating a few ideas but new rules with government buildings is making it hard.

September Classic

THE next bowls tournament is on August 30-31.

The reason this great event is called the September Classic is because it is a “gold letter event”. We cannot change the board.

There are not many of these left to get your name up in gold.

If you want your name up in gold in the Moulamein Bowling Club plus win a great cash prize, call Kerryn on 0407 800 111 to book in.

It is a five-game two bowls triples event over two days.

Morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea will be supplied both days.

Pigeon update

JUST a quick update on the Moulamein Bowling Club pigeon syndicate.

One of our 10 remaining pigeons came in first in one of the trial races.

Elpidgearama came in over five minutes ahead of the next bird.

Starting to look good for the big race. Yes, we have a few weird names for our birds. That’s half the fun.

I do not know if the name Crippa will be able to be used again.

Lovely sound on the roof

MOST of us seemed to wake up and hear the rain on the roof Saturday night.

It sounded great. It stopped and we all wondered how long it was raining before we woke up. It didn’t.

Quarter of a millimetre, or one point in the old language.

Like a political promise, I thought; sounds good and gave us nothing.

Bit like my cheaper power, Albo. Still waiting.

River levels

THE Edward River has continued to drop slowly and is now at around 820 megaliters per day and just above 1.1m.

The Edward is boatable to around 1m if you do not mind losing a prop every now and then.

Unfortunately, there is only 580 megalitres below Stephens Weir, so the Edward will continue to drop.

The Billabong Creek should keep supplying over 200ML or so for at least a month so this should keep the levels almost boatable.
