Footy team warming up

Rain

AT the time of writing, we have had 10 millimetres.

We got a freak storm over the house just on dark that toped us off with the last 2mm. It didn’t go far.

I was up on the top block and got nothing about 2km away.

There is also 20mm forecast for today and the weekend.

Could be a cold miserable day at Hay for the football and netball.

I am sure the dreaded Hay Hammy will be playing up with a few of our Mighty Magoos.

Keep it coming, Huey.

Off-quota water coming

THOSE irrigators in the Murrumbidgee and those at the top of our mighty Billabong have enjoyed three days of off-quota water.

There have been around 600 megalitres a day coming into the top of our creek for about a week now.

We can only hope our share gets past the pumpers up top.

It is a long wait and I expect the extra water to arrive down here in about two or three weeks.

We cannot get it any earlier as I think the farmers down here at the bottom of our creek can pump about 240ML a day.

There are only about 120ML going past us.

We would pump the creek dry. I think we can pump more water in three days of off-quota than we can pump of our allocation at the moment. Bring it on.

Football netball club commodity auction

THIS is the biggest fundraiser for our Moulamein Football Netball Club for the season and it happened last Saturday night after our big win against Ultima.

I think we raised almost $70,000 on the night. Thank you again to all those that donated and all those that bid up big.

Also, a big thank you to the fellers from BR&C for donating their time to run the auction as well as those that put in untold hours to get all of these goodies together. We take a drive to Hay this weekend to see if can knock the top of the table off.

The way our team played this week, they will give them a run for their money.

I was a bit worried about next year if we go to the Central Murray league as I thought we might be the kicking bags against the big boys of our district.

But Ultima think they can match it up there and we have beaten them two out of three times this year and almost got them in the other game.

The year of the Swans, or whatever we will be called up there, may still come around.

We will be able to keep our colours up there, but not our name, unless Swan Hill would like a new name. Only time will tell.

Small fire

OUR Moulamein brigade responded to a small bushfire behind our recreation reserve on Monday.

I think our footballers and netballers may or may not have had a bonfire after their big win on Saturday.

But if they did, it is good to see that they still keep this long held tradition alive.

If the wind did not pick up on Monday and it had not been so dry, no-one would have known. Bugger.

It only cost me an hour of my life to put the fire out and I am sure our footballers and netballers got more than an hour of fun out of the bonfire.

It has rained now so the next bonfire should not be able to get away.

Footy in the bush does not come any better than a bonfire to finish the night off.

More cars needed

WE had a great weekend of training last week.

We got to cut up and dismantle a few cars.

We always need more. If you have a car or two that you would like to get rid of, we will pick them up and cut them into pieces and if you want them back, we can load them back on a trailer for you to cash in.

How old do you have to be?

I HAVE always wondered at what stage in life you get most of the way through a shave and you think, “Stuff it, that will do”.

We have all seen the old fellers that almost finish their shave and leave a patch of whiskers.

We think, “When we see it, should I tell him?” No one told me. After looking in the mirror on Sunday morning, I think it is about mid 60s when that starts to happen.

I will be looking closer next time. Old age is a bitch, then you die.

$10,000 still up for grabs

THE owner of the custom-made trailer that was recently taken out of his backyard in Moulamein has kept up the reward of $10,000 for its return.

No questions asked. That might get a few tongues wagging. If you need a quick 10 grand, point him in the right direction. He will get the cash to you somehow.

Pigeon update

AN update on our Moulamein Bowling Club pigeon syndicate as people keep asking how they are going.

Our last race was 80km.

Needles (the one I part own with a couple of mates) came in 27th and only 8.5 seconds behind the winner of this trial race.

The Moulamein bowls syndicate still have eight out of our original 12 that we started with.

Let’s just hope the falcons leave our remaining eight pigeons alone so we can get to the big race.

River levels

THE Edward River has continued to drop very slowly and is now at around 650ML a day and around 1m.
