Pyramid Hill

PYRAMID Hill was certainly a competitive side each week in the 2021 season, but A -Grade coach Abbey Dingwall says they are hoping to build on a few areas this year.

“Looking on this season, I think we are in a better place to hopefully earn a finals position,” she said.

“So far we have been training every Thursday in Bendigo as the majority of our girls who play live in Bendigo. We are going to bring in the option of Tuesday night fitness trainings, however, they won’t be compulsory.

“We have three practice matches to give us a good run before the season starts.”

Pyramid Hill played Mount Pleasant on March 10 and will face Macorna on March 24, then Koondrook-Barham on March 26.

“It’s been a really positive start to our pre-season and actually being able to have solid hitout trainings without number restrictions,” Dingwall said.

“We are all very excited for the year ahead, too, hopefully be able to have a real crack each week without having to miss weeks and hopefully make finals.

“We have a heap of new girls this season so it’s been fantastic to be able to have trainings that incorporate bonding and welcoming all our new girls for an exciting year ahead.”

Dingwall will be coaching both the A and B -Grade teams, with Karly Mitchell co-coaching the B-Grade and coaching C-Grade, and Jessica Zimmer coaching C-Reserve.

The ultimate goal is to have many of those teams making finals but overall they just want to have an enjoyable season after two hit-and-miss years.

The club has recruited several players, including two from the Central Murray league, along with two girls returning from having a baby.

“We have lost a few girls due to finishing university degrees and moving on and our main loss is Zoe Kennedy from our A-Grade team,” Dingwall said.

Like all the teams, it was disheartening for Pyramid Hill to have the stops and stars last year which disrupted their flow. They still managed a fairly even win-loss ratio of five victories and seven losses. So they are hoping to get back on the court – and stay on all season.

Player to watch:

Imogen Broad. She turns 18 this year and played in the A-Grade side last year. Definitely had a presence which will only improve this year. Dingwall said she is excited to watch her grow and develop as a competitive A -Grade mid-courter.
