United stand to upset Woorinen

In quite possibly the upset of the season and what might be a new chapter for United, the Nyah girls came out strong and maintained that lead throughout the match against Woorinen.

The Tigers have been a strong team for years and, while the side remains in tip-top shape, there is fresh blood at Nyah, bringing plenty of experience to the Demons.

The side’s recruits all showed their skill. Matika Mitchell has joined the side from Moulamein, Zoe Gray from Wandella, and playing coach Laura Anderson from Tyntynder.

All won best and fairest awards with their former clubs and Nyah’s play has evidently improved on their valiant yet winless season last year.

Mitchell and Gray added some fantastic defence, while Anderson continues to be a force through the midcourt.

The newbies combined with solid team veterans such as Shania Decker.

Tessa Demaria was a standout for the Tigers, as was Zoe Steike in her first A grade game at GS.

Steike was one of a number of younger players who stepped up to senior level and the young guns certainly impressed.

United will get a break this week as they were scheduled to play Kerang, which has been unable to put together an A grade side, while Woorinen will take a bye.
