Lake Boga on a roll

LAKE Boga look set for a stellar year if their first two performances on court are anything to go by.

Under the leadership of Anna Archie, the Magpies have continued to shine and defeated Koondrook Barham 67-17 at home.

Playing coach Archie said her side had a more pleasing start to the game than their previous match against Tooleybuc-Manangatang.

Archie said her side were quicker off the mark this week and were leading 14-5 by quarter-time.

By half-time the Magpies were up 27-11 before a superb 23-goal third quarter.

“We’ve shown with more game time together as a new team we will start to really hit our marks as the weeks come on,” she said.

“Defensively the team worked well and starting to trust the player behind will pick up the loose ball.

“On the attack side of things we are progressing nicely and slowly seeing glimpses of smooth netball through the court.”

GK/GD Jemma Meehan had her most influential game yet as captain and combined nicely respectively with Kerang-import Emma Peacock and Felicity Robertson in the circle. At the other end, Katie and Sarah Hepburn, the latter in her 50th senior game, came into their own as a combination and created plenty of flair and excitement.

Archie, herself always tireless at centre, also praised the hard work of WD Taigan O’Shannassy and WA Lily Brennan who were “vital links” throughout the court. It was also nice to see Peacock have a run in centre, showing off her versatility.

Archie said that the Koondrook-Barham Raiders put in a huge effort with most of their players doubling up with a match in A Reserve.

“I take my hat off to the side for most of them running out eight quarters of netball,” Archie said.

“Stellar effort and a lot of respect from myself and the team.”

Best on court for Boga were Jemma Meehan and Lily Brennan, while best on for the Raiders was tireless GA Tiarnee Lake.

The A grade best-and-fairest runner-up from 2021 is always one to watch.

After the Easter break Lake Boga will face a strong Swan Hill on April 24, while Koondrook-Barham will host Tyntynder.
