Tigers and Kangas hungry for netball win

THERE will be plenty of competitive netball on display on Good Friday when the Woorinen Tigers host the Cohuna Kangas.

The sides have played one game each so far this season but are yet to come away with a win so they will be hungry for victory.

Woorinen were a strong team last year, finishing in the top four but their first game, a loss against Nyah Nyah West United, was a major upset.

The 36-52 loss was a scare ofr the Tigers but Nyah may be a standout team this year, having added to their line-up.

Tigers to watch will include goal-ring young gun Zoe Steike, who impressed in her first senior game, and Tessa Demaria, whose defensive skill is always tough to beat.

Cohuna finished further down the ladder in 2021 but still have a heap to offer on court.

The Kangas played their first game in round 2 against a powerful Balranald – the 2021 minor premiers – in what was always going to be a battle. They went down 37-68 but should settle in after a few games.

Kobie Free is a familiar face for all Cohuna Kangas fans and will be one to watch on Friday.

Her accuracy and skills in the goal circle will be a calming influence on her team, as will her control in the attacking half.

Versatile Keely Wilson is another quality addition who contributes an enviable vertical leap at both ends. Her work in both goals and in defence makes her an asset to Cohuna as they look to improve on last year’s finish.

When the Kangas and Tigers met in 2021, it was a comfortable victory for the yellow and black, but the visitors will certainly bring their A game and will perhaps manage a win.

The rest of the league will return to the court for the Anzac Day weekend.

Cohuna will again travel to play Tooleybuc Manangatang, Koondrook-Barham will host Tyntynder, Nyah Nyah West United will host the Mallee Eagles, and Swan Hill and Lake Boga will play on the Sunday.

Woorinen and Balranald return to the court on April 30.
