Allen sisters star for Eagles

Mallee Eagles v Woorinen

THE Mallee Eagles produced a great win over Woorinen on Saturday, taking control of the game early on to lead them to a 61-40 victory.

Despite the loss, Woorinen coach Olivia Jones said the intensity of the game and how well Woorinen played was not reflected by the scoreline.

The match saw the return of two Woorinen legends in Amy Cadd and Chelsea Bird, both of whom slotted perfectly into the Tigers line-up, and 13-year-old Woorinen youngster Ava Crow made her A Grade debut.

The Allen sisters Meg and Claire gave a stellar performance in defence for the Eagles, while Emelia Bett was strong in the goal circle and was able to put up shots when needed.

Eagles WD Tayla Anderson also performed well, taking on a string defensive role while gaining a lot of intercepts.

Balranald v Tooleybuc-Manangatang

DESPITE having the last two weeks off, Balranald continued their undefeated streak and beat Tooleybuc-Manangatang 51-37.

The Saints were extremely accurate under the ring and didn’t provide a lot of opportunities to turn the ball over. But the Roos’ defence worked tirelessly to ensure every loose ball was theirs.

The Saints defence in Taylen Blachford and Laura Zanker also rebounded well in the ring, picking up any loose balls.

The scoreline was back to within a goal in the third quarter, before a few errors from the Saints and a competitive Balranald side blew the lead back out to 10 goals.

The Roos’ Bree Hodgson played a strong game in WD, providing defensive pressure and drive down the court.

Balranald A Grade playing coach Jess Parry said she was really proud of the way they played out the game, producing some great passages of play.
