Netball clean sweep for Cohuna

THE Cohuna Kangas came out on top against Koondrook-Barham in a 51-39 victory on what was a great day for the club’s netball team.

All grades came away with a win against the Raiders, and the A-grade continued their winning streak after a 44-32 win last week against Tooleybuc-Manangtang.

“The A-grade girls were keen to come out firing to back up last week’s win,” Cohuna’s Danni Sawyer said.

“It’s been a long time since we won two in a row.”

It was an intense physical match from the get-go, and a terrific effort from both sides in cool but clear conditions.

“Our defensive pressure was unreal and our turnovers were well supported by Carmen’s (Dye) beautiful finishing in the goal circle,” Sawyer said.

“Not much separated the two teams for the entire game but we managed to sustain our first quarter lead for the whole game.”

Best for the Kangas were Annie Toma, who provided plenty of speed and agility through the midcourt and Dye, whose accuracy in the goal ring is the cream of the crop in the league.

Best for the Raiders was GD Lily Den Houting whose defensive pressure was top-notch.

Next week both sides will have difficult matches with ladder-topping teams from 2021 and the current season thus far.

Cohuna will face tough opposition in the ever-strong Swan Hill, while Koondrook-Barham will be tested by the Balranald Roos, last year’s minor premiers.
