Balranald too strong for Woorinen

DESPITE putting up a good fight, Woorinen couldn’t quite get over the finish line against Balranald at the weekend, going down to the top side 35-43.

It was a good, competitive game to watch, with the scores at the first break level at 12 goals apiece. However, by half-time the Roos led by four goals and continued to increase their lead from there to secure their eight-goal win.

The win solidified the Roos’ top position on 24 points, with Swan Hill hot on their tail with 22 and only one win less.

Tigers playing coach Olivia Jones said that even though her team went down in the end, they came off the court very proud of their efforts against the ladder leaders.

“Of all our games so far this season, we played our most consistent four quarters of netball,” Jones said.

“This can be attributed to all players across the court playing their role and creating some beautiful passages of play.”

Woorinen co-captains Tessa Demaria and Jamiee Beasy stood out for the Tigers, keeping their heads up throughout the match and giving 110 per cent.

Jones believes her team is continuing to build every game they play.

“As the weeks go on we are becoming a more cohesive group and working well together to allow the ball to flow down the court,” she said.

Woorinen will take on Tooleybuc-Manangatang in round 9. With both sides quite evenly matched, and only percentage separating them on the A Grade ladder, it should be a compelling match for both spectators and the players themselves.

Balranald have a bye before taking on the Mallee Eagles in round 10 in what should be another close match.
