Lake Boga and Balranald fight out tie

THERE was nothing to separate Lake Boga and Balranald on Saturday, with the game resulting a 43-all tie.

The Roos got their heads in front initially, with the Pies trailing by about five points until halfway through the second quarter.

It was then they were able to capitalise on a couple of Roos errors to regain ground, and from then the match was neck and neck.

With just a few minutes to go, the Pies made an error in their attacking end and the Roos hopped straight in to pick up the ball. Shooter Ella Mirtschin scored off a penalty shot after the final whistle to level the scores.

Lake Boga playing coach Anna Archie said despite not coming away with a win, it was a great game to play against a strong side such as Balranald.

“I really felt that Saturday was a real team effort,” Archie said

“We quite often get in a position against those kind of teams and we just don’t nut it out as a team unit, and Saturday I think we did.”

Pies shooting duo Sarah and Katie Hepburn continued to grow their connection in the ring, while Lily Brennan and Felicity Robertson remain consistent.

However, Archie believed that it was hard to single out one outstanding player.

“I honestly can’t pull out one individual to say they played a stellar game, I really do feel it was a team effort,” Archie said.

“I personally feel that we are a team that is peaking at the right time, which is really exciting.”

After the league bye this week, Balranald will host Cohuna at Greenham Park in what should be a good win for the Roos. Meanwhile Lake Boga will travel to Koondrook-Barham, which should also be an easier game for the Pies, with the Raiders yet to get a win on the board.
