Swan Hill too strong for Woorinen

IT was a tough day on the court for Woorinen against ladder leaders Swan Hill, going own 29-53.

There was only one goal in the contest at quarter-time, but Swan Hill pushed ahead, gaining a 12-goal lead by half-time and continuing to build from there.

Swan Hill wing defender Karli McIntyre was able to create a lot of pressure against the Tigers, while wing attack Kelsey McCoy remained strong and composed with the ball, demonstrating a great connection with the shooters when feeding into the ring.

Now facing time off the court with consecutive byes, Tigers playing coach Olivia Jones is looking to try and keep up the pace.

“We will be working hard at training to give ourselves a fighting chance at making the top five as we hit the pointy end of the season,” she said.


Dogs scrape home

IT was a tense and competitive game between Tyntynder and Cohuna on Saturday, with Tyntynder scraping in 39-38.

In an even contest, no team got major leads and no more than a goal was in it at each quarter break.

Dogs defenders Maddy Gleeson and Nicola Miliano remained a united front during the game, deflecting or intercepting a lot of balls, taking away many scoring opportunities from the Kangas.

Goal attack Tess Denham also put in a good performance against Danni Sawyer, listed in Tyntynder’s best for being quick, accurate and determined.

After the league bye, Tyntynder will travel to Tooleybuc to take on the the Saints in what should be another competitive game for the Dogs. Cohuna will travel to Balranald for a tough game against one of the leagues’s top sides this year.


Eagles win easily

THE Mallee Eagles had a convincing win against Tooleybuc-Manangtang, getting up 70-55.

While there were only two goals the difference at the first break, the Eagles quickly gained traction, with a lapse from the Saints in the second quarter allowing the Eagles a 11-goal lead at half-time.

While the Saints worked hard to restrict the margin, the damage had been done, and the Eagles came away with a 15-point win.

The Eagles had their full team back on court, with the return of goal defender Meg Allen giving them a little pep with her drive and talk through the mid-court.

At the other end of the court, Emelia Bett remained calm throughout the game despite the pressure from Peyton Olivier and Taylen Blachford, controlling the ball from the centre into the goal circle.
