Balranald v Koondrook-Barham

IT was always going to be a tough day for Koondrook-Barham against Balranald, going down to the Roos by 43 goals.

The Roos got off to a strong start, going into the first break 11 goals ahead of the Raiders. They were then able to double their lead by half time, with the score reading 28-10. The Raiders tried their best, but the Roos kept their defensive pressure up to allow them to only score three goals in the third quarter, before they were eventually beaten by 43 goals overall.

The match provided Balranald with some much needed percentage, now sitting in second position on the ladder just ahead of Swan Hill although on the same number of points.

Koondrook-Barham are still yet to get a win on the board, and will have their work cut out for them again this week against Tooleybuc-Manangatang.

Mallee Eagles v Kerang

IN Kerang’s first A Grade game of the season, the Blues had a baptism of fire, taking on the ladder leading Mallee Eagles in a very one-sided match.

Despite having consistent shooter Kellie Walker away, the Eagles were in fine form, leading from the get go and making the young Blues side work hard for every ball in shutting down their attack line and limiting their shooting opportunities.

Jorja McDonald and Neveah Roberts took to the court in the goals for the Eagles, both combining well under the guidance of reliable shooter Emelia Shannahan. Defenders Tayla Anderson and Meg Allen were also standouts for the Eagles, working hard to stop the Blues and creating lots of turnovers.

The Mallee Eagles will get a rest this week, while Kerang will host Lake Boga in what will likely be a tough match for the Blues against one of the leagues top A Grade sides this season.

Cohuna Kangas v Swan Hill

SWAN Hill have come away with a hard fought win against Cohuna.

The Swans had a three goal lead at the first break, before a big second quarter by the Kangas brought that lead back to two goals at half time. The Swans put their foot down in the third quarter, blowing their lead out to seven goals, before eventually getting their six goal win.

Kangas shooters in Carmen Dye and Kobie McIvor were very accurate throughout the match, forcing the Swans to work hard in defence to try and turn the ball over and create more scoring opportunities for Casey Frame and Ingrid Condely, who combined well in the Swan’s ring.

“It was fantastic to have a great hit out against Cohuna, and we were very pleased to get the win after it being close all day,” Swan Hill playing coach Madeleine Nalder said.
