WOORINEN has claimed the fifth and last finals spot after a fierce battle against Nyah-Nyah West United in the last home-and-away round of the 2022 Central Murray season.
“It was a make-or-break game for us,” Woorinen playing coach Olivia Jones said.
The Tigers were able to get an early jump on the Demons, going into the first break six goals up – a lead that came in handy during the more difficult parts of the match.
By half-time, the Tigers had extended their lead to eight goals and looked comfortable as they took the court for the second half.
The Demons kept their heads up and were able to bring the margin back to within seven goals by three-quarter-time. However, the Tigers were determined not to let their finals chances slip by, finishing the competitive match with an eight-goal win.
Midcourter Jaimee Beasy was among the Tigers’ best, with her consistency in the centre position making her a great asset to her team.
Tigers goal keeper Emily Free was also a standout on the court, taking some vital intercepts and keeping the Demons shooters, Denise Snyder and Bridie Curran, on their toes.
Jones said it was an awesome win for her side, and she was happy her team were able to step up.
“It was amazing to see how far we have come as a team during the season, having a 24-goal turnaround since we played Nyah last time,” Jones said.
The loss means that Nyah-Nyah West’s season is officially over, the club finishing in sixth position on the ladder.
The Tigers will now be looking to keep up the pace against Lake Boga this week in an elimination final on Sunday.
