Murrabit end premiership drought

A GRADE

Murrabit 41 d Nullawil 35

MURRABIT are the 2022 A Grade premiers after defeating Nullawil by six goals.

Nullawil started the game with great intensity and control, with the midcourt duo of Meg Fawcett and Zoe Ferrier having most of ball. However it was the constant build-ups started by Murrabit’s Steph Reeves in the first quarter that looked dangerous. The Maroons went into the quarter-time break two goals up and looking confident with their start.

The second quarter defensive dominance of Murrabit’s Chloe Adams made it hard for Nullawil to score. Fawcett and Bartram’s attempts at feeding in and out of the circle failed and they scored only five goals for the quarter. Murrabit’s Grace Gillingham and Lauren Morrow did not have the same problem, scoring 11 goals and putting their side four goals up at the half-time break.

The third quarter saw a much more even display of netball, with Nullawil tightening up their defensive efforts in the midcourt and stopping the crucial run of Mary Yates-Ward and Steph Reeves. Quickly, just two goals separated the Golden Rivers powerhouses.

Murrabit’s defensive efforts stood up in the last quarter and they took the game on, which proved to be the difference. Chloe Adams was spectacular and unbeatable under the post, with excessive rebounds giving Murrabit lots of opportunities to score.

Nullawil moved Sophie Peacock to goal defence, however it was a case of too little, too late. Morrow stepped up for her beloved Blues. Murrabit secured the premiership for the first time in 10 seasons, with Adams awarded the best-on-court medal for her incredible efforts in defence.

B GRADE

Nullawil 42 d Murrabit 24

AFTER being the better team all year, Murrabit fell to Nullawil in the final. A game with big expectations never reached its potential, as Nullawil had control all game. Sophie Mathiske was named best on court for her defensive efforts in Nullawil’s big win. Murrabit failed to hit the scoreboard at the right moments.

B RESERVE

Nullawil 38 d Murrabit 33

IN what was the closest game of the day, Nullawil took their third premiership for the season. The scores were close for the first half of the game, nine apiece at quarter-time and 17-all at half-time. Nullawil then began to attack hard in the second half to earn their silverware, with Regan Kelly named best on court for Nullawil.

UNDER 17

Ultima 36 d Macorna 27

THE game lived up to its expectation of young talent on display. Ultima’s Lily Grey was giving her team plenty of drive, but the defensive efforts of Macorna’s Ebony Black kept things interesting. Maddy Black was shooting extremely accurately, giving Macorna every chance to stay in the game. Ultima’s Kobe Davidson was named best on court for the winning side for what was a super display of netball in the goal keeper bib. Ultima’s seniors have a lot to look forward to if this is the future of their club.

UNDER 14

Nullawil 63 d Ultima 19

NULLAWIL juniors had a cracking start to the final, with a 16-goal first quarter. Ultima were trying their best to stop the Nullawil dominance, however nothing could stop the mighty Maroons. Lily Humphries of Nullawil was awarded best on court for her midcourt efforts.
