Swans fire warning shot

Moulamein 39 d Murrabit 35

MOULAMEIN fired a warning shot to the entire A Grade competition in the upset of the round. The Swans defeated last year’s premiers Murrabit by four goals. A new look Murrabit were red hot to start, however it was the Swans who came home hard in the second half. Meg Rooney played a strong first game for the home team, while Ashea Budjuso was strong for Murrabit.

Macorna 36 d Wandella 26

IN cold and wet conditions at Wandella, it was the home side who struggled to fire. Macorna had a solid first quarter, coming in five goals up at the break, with Asela Finch for the Tigers remarkable in goals. The midcourt battle between Macorna’s April Wishart and Ruah Figiri was a battle of speed and smarts, as both worked hard for possession. Georga Lindsay for Wandella worked tirelessly to hit the scoreboard, but the defensive efforts of Erin Delahunty were too strong.

Ultima 52 d Hay 25

IN the largest margin for the day, Ultima dominated Hay at Hay. The new courts were christened, but the results of the main game did not go Hay’s way. A huge 16-goal first quarter showed Lily Grey’s goaling dominance for Ultima, while Lou Frost provided plenty of opportunities for her team at the defensive end. Hay’s Katie Howard and Hannah Stewart were the better players on the day for the Lions.

IN round 2, the new and improved Moulamein take on Macorna in what should be a close encounter, with either team capable of taking the four points.

This game will be the match of the round, with Stevie Bibby going head to head with Macorna’s Emmalea Wishart.

Murrabit will take on Hay at home in what could be an opportunity for the reigning premiers to bank their first win of the season.

Ultima take on Wandella with confidence after their round 1 win, however the Bombers will be hungry to get on the winners’ list.
