Central Murray netball: Shaking the early Blues

KERANG have kept their winning streak alive in round 4, beating Cohuna by a convincing 18 goals at the weekend.

However, it wasn’t the easiest of wins by the Blues, who were forced to play catch-up after a slow start.

The Kangas were a goal ahead by the end of the first quarter and six goals ahead halfway through the second.

But the Blues were eventually able to capitalise on a few errors from the Kangas, getting themselves right back in it and showing determination to not falter again.

“We were really happy to have that turnaround, but we just have to be doing at from the get-go,” Blues playing coach Chloe Adams said.

“We know that we can dig deep and come out and win when we need to and our back’s against the wall, but I’d like to not have to do that every time.

“It would be nice to start really strong, so we will be really working on that.”

Blues wing defender Tahni Clark played an instrumental role in her team’s win and was one of the best on court for the match.

“She did the little one percenters – just her pressure and her bringing the ball down out of defence was sensational, you couldn’t fault her,” Adams said.

Despite the loss, Cohuna’s playing coach Meg Dye was still happy with the performance, especially among injury woes.

“It was a tough, physical battle all day, but I am so proud of the girls with how well we stood up to them – it felt like we really pushed them,” she said.

The Kangas will have another big task ahead of them as they take on Swan Hill next week, while Kerang will travel to Alan Garden Reserve to play against Tyntynder.

“You can’t take any game lightly in this league, and I think they (Tyntynder) will come out firing and be really hungry for a win,” Adams said.

“We know it’s going to be a challenging game and another one where we are going to have to put our best foot forward if we want to get the four points.”
