NNW United leave their woes behind

NYAH-Nyah West United are back on the winners’ list after a convincing performance against Tooleybuc-Manangatang.

After a couple of losses in a row, the Demons came out determined to redeem themselves, and a strong first-quarter effort gave them the confidence boost they needed.

Saints coach Melanie Wait said despite the loss she was happy with the effort her team put into the game.

“We had a much better contest after the first quarter,” she said.

“Our defensive pressure was strong, but we needed to make better use of our opportunities.”

Demons goal shooter Bridie Curran was among the best on the court, shooting with accuracy while demonstrating great leadership in the ring.

Yet to get a win on the board, the Saints are in last place on the ladder, while the Demons are in sixth position.

FINAL WHISTLE:

NNW United 43

Tooleybuc-Manangatang 28

Swans eclipse the Kangas

IT was a tough day on the court for Cohuna on Saturday, going down to Swan Hill by 53 goals.

The Swans were in control of the match from the beginning and by half-time led the Kangas 48-20. The Kangas’ deficit continued to blow out from there.

Swan Hill coach Madeleine Nalder said she was happy with how her team performed, with all of their combinations across the court working well, but particularly at their attacking end.

“Our goalers were very accurate at the post, which was a confidence boost for them and really pleasing to see,” Nalder said.

Swans shooter Zoe Morris was on the best on court, scoring 59 goals and combining well with both Ingrid Condely and Casey Frame throughout the match.

The Swans have a bye this week, while the Kangas go up against Tooleybuc-Manangatang.

FINAL WHISTLE:

Cohuna 41

Swan Hill 94

Blues fight back to win

KERANG have had to fight to come back from behind to narrowly beat a determined Tyntynder side on Saturday.

After missing out on a win against Lake Boga the previous week, the Dogs had a bit of a confidence boost as they took the court against the Blues, and had a half-time lead of four goals.

But the Blues have a great ability to claw their way back, clicking into gear in the second half of the match to take home the four points by four goals.

Kerang playing coach Chloe Adams said midcourter Tahni Clarke was one of the best in the match, starting the game at wing defence before switching to wing attack.

“To go from defence to then attack, it’s not the easiest thing to do and she did exactly what we asked of her,” Adams said.

“She was a massive difference in wing attack – just really controlled the ball and cherished it.”

FINAL WHISTLE:

Tyntynder 41

Kerang 45

Woorinen resume dominance

A WEEK off did nothing to slow down Woorinen’s A Grade side as they dominated over Koondrook-Barham.

It was always going to be a tough day on the court for the Raiders, who are yet to get a win on the board this season, while the Tigers are one of the top teams in the competition.

The Tigers hit the ground running, more than quadrupling the Raiders’ score by the first break. They continued to grow their lead from there, playing a fast-paced game and leaving the Raiders flat-footed.

The Tigers will have a more competitive game against Lake Boga this week, while the Koondrook-Barham have a bye before taking on Lake Boga in round 7.

FINAL WHISTLE:

Woorinen 83

Koondrook-Barham 26
