Swans fly high over Dogs

A CONSISTENT and clinical performance by Swan Hill led to a 44-goal victory against crosstown rivals Tyntynder in the King’s Birthday weekend clash on Saturday.

The Bulldogs were no match for the Swans, whose their experience and cohesiveness as a team gave them the upper hand.

By the first break, Swan Hill were already seven goals up, with that lead extending to 17 by the half-time break.

Tyntynder’s deficit continued to grow in the second half and, despite changing their line-up on the court a couple of times, they just weren’t able to claw their way back into the game.

Swan Hill coach Madeleine Nalder was happy her team was back on the winners’ list.

“We were pleased with the way we bounced back after our loss (to Woorinen) last weekend,” she said.

“We felt we worked constantly across the four quarters, which was our focus going into the game.”

Struggling to find a consistent line-up this season, and without midcourter Monica Ellis at the weekend, the Dogs were again working with new combinations and couldn’t match the consistency that only comes from having played together for a long time.

“We were beaten by a much better team – Swan Hill are exceptionally strong across the whole court,” Tyntynder coach Teagan Lawry said.

“We had patches of good play, but we made too many errors.”

Nicola Miliano and Bridget Dedini worked incredibly hard in defence for Tyntynder, but the Swans’ shooting duo could not be faulted, with Zoe Morris’ superb holding ability, combined with Ingrid Condely’s moving-attacking style, proving no match for the defenders.

The win moved Swan Hill up the ladder into second position, while Tyntynder now sit just three from the bottom in ninth position.

The Bulldogs are set to host Nyah-Nyah West United in what should be a competitive match this weekend, while Swan Hill will travel to Koondrook-Barham to take on the Raiders.
