KERANG have a tougher road to the finals after a 15-goal loss against the Mallee Eagles on Saturday pushed them out of the top five.
The Eagles gave themselves an early buffer, doubling the Blues’ score in the first quarter. Then left to play catch-up, Blues coach Chloe Adams said her side just couldn’t manage to close that early gap.
“The Eagles were a classy outfit who came to play and we just weren’t up to it on the day,” she said.
“We made some changes that worked in the last quarter and showed fight right up until the final whistle, so we take away those as positives.”
Eagles playing coach Meg Allen said she was really impressed with the four-quarter effort from her team.
“From the start, the intensity and defensive pressure was evident from both teams,” she said.

Tigers hold out Dogs
WOORINEN kept their six-week winning streak alive with a hard-fought six-goal win over Tyntynder.
While Tyntynder suffered a 22-goal loss to the Tigers in round 2, the Dogs took the court like a completely different side, demonstrating good connections and a fierce competitiveness to make sure the Tigers earned their win.
The Dogs found themselves ahead by four goals at half-time. But an injury to midcourter Toni Rivett late in the first half shifted the momentum slightly against the Dogs, while the Tigers remained strong and controlled to take home the win.
Dogs defending duo Nicola Miliano and Bridget Dedini played a crucial role in slowing the Tigers attack, combining well to keep Tayla Bennett and Emily Siely on their toes and earning critical intercepts throughout the game.

Demons take a big hit
WHILE a 21-goal loss to Lake Boga is sure to leave Nyah-Nyah West United feeling down, the injuries to some of their key players during the game will be an even bigger loss for the struggling side.
It was a bad day on the court for the Demons, with coach Laura Anderson and midcourter Madison Jones both going down with knee injuries during the match.
While it was always going to be a tough game to win for the home side taking on the undefeated ladder leaders, the Demons held their own in the first half of the match, ensuring the Magpies earned every goal they scored.
The Demons will travel to Koondrook-Barham to take on the Raiders in round 13, while Lake Boga will host the ever-improving Mallee Eagles, who could potentially put an end to their undefeated season.

Swans way too strong
SWAN HILL had a convincing 31-goal win over Tooleybuc-Manangtang on Saturday.
While the Swans got an early jump over the Saints, heading into half-time with a 27-goal lead, the Saints improved greatly in the second half, only letting the Swans’ lead grow by a further five goals.
Swan Hill goalers Zoe Morris and Ingrid Condely continued to demonstrate their connection in the ring, developing their combination as the season progresses. They were assisted well on the edge of the ring by centre player Kelsey McCoy.
Midcourter Kelly Bonney also returned to the court for the second week in a row after suffering an injury back in round 1, adding another layer of depth to the Swans attack end.
The Swans have a bye next week, before going up against the Mallee Eagles in a critical, must-win match in round 14. Meanwhile, the Saints will go up against Kerang.
