SWAN Hill had a convincing 37-goal win over Cohuna at the weekend.
The Swans were in control from the beginning of the match, going into the first break 17 goals up on the Kangas.
With finals out of the question, the Kangas sported a slightly different line-up. While the Kangas’ A Reserve team had to forfeit their match somewhat unexpectedly, coach Meg Dye said the three remaining players stepped up into A Grade, slotting seamlessly into the side to experience a good game against one of the top sides in the league.
“Considering the final score, as a team we were quite pleased with the situation we were put in,” Dye said.
“I couldn’t be more proud as a coach of what the team produced.”
Kangas goal attack Kobie McIvor was again one of the side’s best, putting out a strong and consistent performance under the post.
FINAL WHISTLE:
Swan Hill 78
Cohuna 41
Tigers supreme in crushing win
IT was another rough week on the court for Koondrook-Barham, who went down to Woorinen by 96 goals.
The Tigers were clean and clinical in their annihilation of the River Raiders, making sure to work on their systems and hit set targets in each quarter.
While loss is the biggest the wooden-spooners have suffered so far this season, Tigers coach Tayla Bennett believes the scoreline wasn’t reflective of the persistence of the struggling Raiders side.
“Koondrook-Barham should be very proud of their juniors and a side that showed determination, grit and passion for the game – their goalies were accurate under the post and just seeing how the juniors have improved since last time we played them is great and a credit to the club,” she said.
Bennett shot 95 of the Tigers’ 114 goals herself, averaging more than a goal a minute over the course of the game.
FINAL WHISTLE:
Koondrook-Barham 18
Woorinen 114
Demons sneak narrow win
NYAH-Nyah West United came from behind to get a nail-biting two-goal win over Tooleybuc-Manangatang in round 16.
Although neither team is in contention for the finals, there was a finals-like atmosphere during the tightly contested, physical match, with both the Saints and the Demons eager to get one more win on the board before the end of the season.
While the Saints led for the majority of the game, the Demons were never more than a goal or two behind, and dug deep in the last quarter to take home the win.
Demons wing defender Lucy Millard played a pivotal role in the win, applying pressure to the Saints’ attack and working hard to bring the ball out of defence. Steph Henson was also among the Demons’ best, stepping up in the vital moments to keep her team calm and composed when it mattered most.
FINAL WHISTLE:
Tooleybuc-Manangatang 35
NNW United 37
