Top-of-the-ladder netball clash

Woorinen v Lake Boga

A GLIMPSE into this year’s finals could be on offer in the top-of-the-ladder clash between Woorinen and Lake Boga.

While the result won’t have much impact on the ladder or either team’s finals prospects, it is sure to be an intense match, as the Magpies won’t want to lose their undefeated streak so close to the end of the season, while the Tigers will out to ensure that’s exactly what happens.

When they last met, the Magpies got an early jump on the Tigers, putting them in an eight-goal deficit that they were unable to make up for the rest of the match.

If the Tigers are able to bring the same level of intensity from the start of the match and not get rattled by a clinical Lake Boga side, they may just be able to put an end to the Magpies’ perfect season.

Cohuna Kangas v Tooleybuc-Manangatang

WHILE neither Cohuna nor Tooleybuc-Manangatang will be featuring in finals this season, a competitive match can be expected.

With nothing left to lose, the Kangas have been changing their line-up in recent weeks, trying new combinations and giving some juniors a chance to experience senior-level netball.

That said, Kobi McIvor has been reliable in goal attack, being accurate at the post and providing leadership. She will likely be up against Saints defender Olivia Fowler.

While the Saints had a convincing 13-goal win in round 6, the Kangas were suffering from a lot of injury woes and did not have their full side, so the result could be fairly different this time around.

Tyntynder v Swan Hill

DESPITE not having a chance to make finals, Tyntynder will be looking to stop hometown rivals and definite finalists Swan Hill.

In round 6, the Swans dominated over the newly formed Bulldogs team, who were struggling with an inconsistent line-up and building connections on the court.

That’s a different story now, with the Dogs a lot more cohesive, and recently giving top sides like Woorinen and Lake Boga a run for their money.

The connection between shooting duo Kelsey Rowe and Kimberly Calvert has continued to grow, and will be something that Swans defenders Madeleine Nalder and Mollie Quinn are sure to be cautious of heading into the game.

While the Swans may ultimately get the four points, the Dogs will make sure they earn every one of them.

Nyah-Nyah West United v Mallee Eagles

ON the edge of the top five, the Mallee Eagles need a convincing win over Nyah-Nyah West United to ensure they remain in finals contention.

While on paper it seems as though the Eagles should dominate, it might not be so straightforward.

The Demons are coming off a nail-biting, come-from-behind win over Tooleybuc-Manangatang, which would have boosted confidence significantly. They also enjoyed an upset win in round 14 over Kerang, who are on the same number of points as the Eagles on the ladder, with only percentage keeping them out of the five.

Spectators will be keen to see the likely head-to-head between Eagles shooter Kellie Walker and Demons defender Taylen Blachford.

The Demons will also still be without Laura Anderson and Madi Jones, both sidelined with knee injuries.
