Tigers end Magpies’ run

LAKE Boga’s perfect run came to a grinding halt in a nail-biting one-goal loss to Woorinen on Saturday.

The Tigers took their home court against the Magpies with determination, and a five-goal lead heading into the first break put them exactly where they needed to be for the rest of the match.

While the Magpies fought their way back to a one-goal deficit by the end of the third quarter, they weren’t able to break the Tigers in the last 15 minutes of the match, the final siren signalling their first loss for the 2023 season.

“We knew Woorinen wanted the win and they delivered,” Lake Boga netball president Sheridan Harrop said.

The Magpies had the plenty of opportunities throughout the game, with Jemma Meehan and Sophie Peacock working hard in the defence end to turn balls over. But the team struggled to work cohesively to convert these turnovers, not using their leads or normally accurate passing.

“Whilst our girls continued to fight through never dropping their efforts once, we only really saw small windows of our own game,” Harrop said.

“And even though no one likes to lose, our team would agree it was deserved, and we were lucky that the margin was only by one goal.

“It simply wasn’t our day.”

The loss won’t affect the Magpies’ minor premiership, unless they were to suffer the upset of the season with a loss to wooden-spooners Koondrook-Barham in the last round.

“The team will now regain focus in the lead-up to their first final with a bit of extra fire in the belly,” Harrop said.

The Tigers are also definite finalists this season, sitting in third place on the ladder and set to take on Kerang in the last round.

FINAL WHISTLE:

Woorinen 43

Lake Boga 42
