We need you! Calling all netball coaches

SENIOR interleague netball returns for the Central Murray and Golden Rivers Football Netball Leagues this season, with representative teams for both leagues set to take on Sunraysia this July.

The return of the senior representative games will occur at Mildura’s sports precinct on Saturday, July 6, with trials and training dates yet to be finalised for the local sides.

Both Central Murray and Golden Rivers teams are still searching for people to take on several roles, with head and assistant coaches’ positions still to be filled.

Central Rivers league manager Jessie Chester said it was a great opportunity for coaches to take the step up to the challenge.

“We are still looking for head and assistant coaches for both leagues,” Chester said.

“It’s a great opportunity for the coaches out there who may be searching for that bit more of a challenge or to take that next step.

“This is a chance to test out there coaching skills in a short period of time with a new group of girls and is a really exciting opportunity and a great thing to be added to their resume.”

Having been in the role for only six months, Chester said she was excited to be a part of bringing representative netball back to the senior players.

“To have it back after at least five or six years is a really exciting opportunity for netballers in the region,” she said.

“To be affording our senior players the opportunity to take steps on this talent pathway is a great thing.

“These sorts of opportunities often stop around the under-17 age group, so I think it will be great to showcase the top-end talent from across both of our leagues,

“It also gives them the opportunity to take part in something that hasn’t taken place for a while.”

Once coaching staff have been finalised, senior netballers will be invited to trial for the representative teams and attend training.

Chester said the plan was to bring Sunraysia’s teams down to our region next season for a rematch of this year’s games.

“It’s going to be a massive day up there in Mildura with a lot of netball and football to take place,” Chester said.

“It’s also really exciting to be able to use their new precinct and see how they run the day.”

Sunraysia will enter two teams, with Central Murray to play at noon on July 6 and Golden Rivers to follow at 1.30pm.

Both leagues are also on the search for several people to step into support roles, including umpires, scorers, team managers and trainers.

The junior interleague teams for both leagues continue their run of matches this month, with the teams travelling to Echuca this weekend before they play in Mildura next weekend.
