The Guardian Netball Team of the Year player profiles

Sarah Hepburn (Lake Boga)

The leading scorer in the league for the season and clear dominant goal shooter across the home-and-away season.

Shot 687 goals from 17 games, averaging over 40 goals per game, and will be a key player for the Magpies in tomorrow’s grand final rematch against Swan Hill.

Kelsey Rowe (Tyntynder)

Played the majority of her first season in charge of the Bulldogs at goal attack and was a key player in her team’s charge towards the finals.

Scored the most goals for her club with 389 for the season.

Lily Brennan (Lake Boga)

An almost underrated member of the all-conquering Lake Boga outfit, Brennan shows her worth week in and week out with her passing ability into the Magpies’ ring.

Led all regular wing attacks in the Julie Wardle Medal with 12 votes on Sunday night.

Karli McIntyre (Swan Hill)

Veteran Swans midcourter who has been a dominant force for the reigning premiers in the centre this year.

Will be a player to watch in tomorrow’s grand final.

Leah McKenzie (Mallee Eagles)

Has been among the Mallee Eagles’ most consistent performers this season and a key member of their defensive combination.

Polled 10 votes in the Julie Wardle Medal as one of the leading midcourters for the season.

Stevie Bibby (Swan Hill)

Won her first Julie Wardle Medal as the Central Murray’s A Grade best and fairest after a standout first season with the Swans.

Reads the play better than most and is a constant threat in Swan Hill’s defensive third.

Emma Peacock (Lake Boga)

Finished runner-up to Bibby in the Julie Wardle Medal, having also won Lake Boga’s A Grade best-and-fairest award this season.

Will most likely play goal defence in tomorrow’s grand final, but has swapped between both defensive positions all season.

Chloe Adams (Kerang)

The Kerang coach showed why she’s considered one of the Central Murray’s pre-eminent defenders this season, leading her team on an unlikely charge towards the finals late in the season.

Always a tough opponent who makes opposition shooters work hard for every possession

Matika Mitchell (NNW United)

Named NNW United’s A Grade best and fairest after moving into the Demons’ midcourt this season.

One of the most versatile players in the league and can play any position on the court.

Nevaeh Roberts (Mallee Eagles)

Young defensive dynamo who deservingly won this year’s 19 & Under Distinction award on Sunday night.

Polled 19 votes and finished sixth in the Julie Wardle Medal, which shows how bright her future is for a player of her age.

Alicia Harvey (Mallee Eagles)

The Mallee Eagles co-coach has had a stellar first season in charge out at Lalbert, having polled 14 votes in the Julie Wardle Medal.

Her speed and passing sets her apart as one of the Eagles’ most dangerous attacking weapons.

Ella Mirtschin (Balranald)

Moved from her regular position at goal shooter to goal attack following the season-ending injury to Jess Parry.

Scored 399 goals for the season and was a key player in the Roos’ push for a top-three finish to the home-and-away season.

Coach – Anne-Marie Stewart (Lake Boga)

Easiest decision of them all, having led the Magpies into back-to-back grand final appearances without losing a match.

Veteran coach who knows how to get the best out of a squad.
