Central Murray Netball Round 2 Match Reports

KOONDROOK-BARHAM v NNW UNITED

A DOMINANT defensive display has helped Koondrook-Barham secure back-to-back wins, with the Raiders defeating Nyah-Nyah West United by 32 goals.

The River Raiders controlled the game after the first break, conceding just 13 goals in 45 minutes as the Demons struggled to convert their opportunities in the ring, eventually going down 55-23.

Emma Peacock, Larney Allen and Sophie Peacock were impressive in just their third game together as a combination, with the trio not only intercepting many of NNW United’s attacking entries, but also rebounding a majority of the Demons’ missed shots on goal.

“It was a great team effort, the girls played very well in the heat and are playing some great netball, I can’t wait to see what the next few weeks bring,” Koondrook-Barham co-coach Emma Peacock said.

“Our goalies are finding a great connection with each other and the feeders also.”

Erin Moerenhout was again influential for the Raiders, while Madison Jones and Taigan O’Shannassy were among the Demons’ better players.

“We’re still trying to find the right combinations,” said NNW United coach Nola O’Shannassy.

“Our girls worked really hard and gave it there all but Koondrook-Barham were too strong.

“We didn’t have any less of the ball but I won’t take anything away from them (Koondrook-Barham), their goalies were exceptionally accurate and they just gelled better together.”

WOORINEN v TYNTYNDER

WORRINEN will head into Easter break as one of four undefeated teams, following an18-goal win over Tyntynder on Saturday.

The Tigers took the lead with five unanswered goals in the opening minutes of the match and never looked back, with Tayla Bennett (33 goals) and Willow Conlan (15 goals) leading the way in the home team’s attacking third.

Despite the 48-30 result, there were still plenty of positives for Tyntynder according to co-coach Bridget Dedini, who despite the tough day on the court, was still “really happy with how we are progressing.”

“We felt we were competitive for sure. We took a lot of positives from the game,” Dedini said.

“Obviously we have some things to work on, but I wouldn’t say there was a glaring difference (between the two teams).

“Things will continue to come together for us as we play more games, so we’re still really optimistic about the season.

“One big positive was Bridgette King, she did a fantastic job and got a lot of turnovers and just read the play really well.”

Ava Crow was among the better players for Woorinen in the midcourt, along with Bennett as goal shooter.

TOOLEYBUC-MANANGATANG v KERANG

A 15-goal to five third quarter has helped Kerang start the 2025 season undefeated, with the Blues claiming a 17-goal win over Tooleybuc-Manangatang on the weekend.

After a tough first half, where the match ebbed and flowed, the Blues were able to break the game open after the main break, with Kerang coach Chloe Adams happy to come away with the 51-34 victory.

“We were slow to start, and to be honest, we weren’t overly happy with our first half,” Adams said.

“But after speaking about it at half time, the girls came out strong in the third quarter and we were able to break away a bit.

“Our attack end settled nicely and defensively. We won ball that we were able to convert on.

“Maddy Black was huge for us, she had so many gains and worked hard all day bringing the ball out of defence, and ‘Neice’ (Denise Roberts) was so solid in goals, her and ‘Ranga’ (Katelyn Wright) combined really well and built across the game.”

Roberts (27 goals) and Wright (24 goals) shared the workload for the Blues, while Jayda Plant and Taylah Morris were the better players for Tooleybuc-Manangatang.

COHUNA v BALRANALD

BALRANALD have produced one of the season’s great comebacks, scoring the last five goals of Saturday’s game against Cohuna to claim a two-goal win over the Kangas.

After leading for much of the afternoon, the Kangas were overrun in the dying minutes, Madison Jess (22 goals) and Macy Lloyd (28 goals) leading the Roos to a memorable 50-48 victory.

Despite not getting the result, Cohuna coach Georgia Anderson was still happy with her team’s performance in the oppressive conditions.

“I was so happy with how the girls played, we looked really good and smooth and our attack end was super strong,” Anderson said.

“Carla Walker (GA) was best on for us and Danni Bird (GS) was next best.

“All seven girls ran out the game well, which I think is impressive given the conditions.

“They were expected to run out their games come round 1 and they’ve done that.

“We were consistent and leading all game. We have taken so many positives from the match and the team’s attitude and spirit is high.”
