Kangas hold firm to beat Bulldogs

THE Cohuna Kangas have made amends for their last quarter fade-out against Balranald with an 11-goal win over Tyntynder giving the Kangas their first points of the season.

The Kangas got the jump on the Bulldogs in the opening quarter, outscoring the home side 15-8 and never relented, maintaining their advantage for the rest of the match on their way to recording a 43-32 victory.

Cohuna coach Georgia Anderson spoke after the match and was pleased to come out on top of the physical contest, especially without key attacker Danni Bird in the side.

“I think having Danni out of the team made us play differently, which is fine as the amount of experience we have enabled us to adjust,” Anderson said.

“There were so many contests, which is what the game is meant to display and Tyntynder were very physical, so we had to push out and lift each quarter.

“It was a goal to maintain our intensity and the girls did it well.”

Cohuna goal attack Carla Walker was awarded the best on court medal for the Anzac round match, with Carly Geary and Lily Guerin also among the Kangas better players.

Youngster Violet Corrie was again among the Bulldogs better players, with the goal shooter scoring 25 of her team’s 32 goals.
