Tigers convert turnovers

A 43-GOAL haul from Woorinen co-coach Tayla Bennett helped the Tigers record a six goal win over Koondrook-Barham on Saturday.

The 52-46 victory sees Woorinen move two games clear of the Raiders in third place and stay in touch of undefeated Kerang and the Mallee Eagles.

The Tigers ability to capitalise on and convert their turnovers into goals was a key factor in the win, according to Bennett, who was relieved to walk away from a challenging contest with the four points.

“We played a consistent game across all four quarters and maintained a steady performance throughout,” Bennett said post-match.

“We capitalised well on turnovers and with a minimal error count, we demonstrated discipline and focus.

“Koondrook-Barham didn’t stop trying to turn the ball over with their continual pressure and challenges, however we remained composed and patient and were able to work through tough moments effectively.”

Bennett was among the Tigers better players, along with goal defence Lily Den Houting, while Larney Allen and Remy Doyle were the best for the Raiders.

Despite the loss, the Raiders camp were still upbeat after the match, with Koondrook-Barham co-coach Emma Peacock particularly pleased with her team’s defensive efforts.

“Unfortunately not the result we wanted but still a very good game,” Peacock said.

“We did a great job across the court defensively but unfortunately we just couldn’t convert.

“Woorinen came out strong and physical and unfortunately we couldn’t match that, they played four quarters with very few mistakes and converted on a lot of their ball.”
