Central Murray Round 14 Netball Match Reports

WOORINEN v NNW UNITED

A 28-GOAL to 12 second half ensured Woorinen is back in the Central Murray A grade top three, with the Tigers accounting for Nyah-Nyah West United by 21 goals on Saturday.

Despite yet to taste victory in 2025, the Demons took the game up to the highly rated Tigers in the first half, with Woorinen holding a five goal lead at the main break.

NNW United were unable to maintain their form after the break however, with the home side taking over as the rain set in during the second half to run away 49-28 winners.

It was a performance that pleased Woorinen co-coach Tayla Bennett, who led the scoring with a match high 32 goals at goal shooter.

“After a tough loss last week we bounced back with determination and focus to secure a solid win I thought,” Bennett said post-match.

“We stayed composed, played with intent and showed great teamwork throughout.

“We know there’s still so much more we have to give and we’ll be working hard towards that goal as well as being consistent in the coming weeks.”

Defenders Courtney Lolicato and Lily Den Houting were among the Tigers better players, while several of NNW United’s experienced players were signalled out for praise by their coach Nola O’Shannassy after the match, with Matika Mitchell earning the Demons best on court award.

“Taigan (O’Shannassy) had her usual number of intercepts, Madison (Jones) and Gemma (Hendy) gelled well in goals and Taylen (Blachford) and Matika (Mitchell) were exceptional in defence,” O’Shannassy said.

“Our game was hotly contested for three quarters, but just got scrappy in the last quarter.

“A few turnovers that Woorinen capitalised on and some wayward passes were our downfall.”

COHUNA v TYNTYNDER

COHUNA have kept their finals hopes alive with a strong 14-goal win over Tyntynder in trying conditions over the weekend.

The Kangas led from start to finish and extended their lead at every change in the 49-35 victory, with Cohuna claiming back-to-back wins for the second time this season.

The result sees the Kangas climb to seventh on the Central Murray ladder and sit just four points behind fifth placed Tooleybuc-Manangatang, with games against Balranald, the Mallee Eagles, Kerang and Lake Boga to come in the run home.

“We were happy with another win and another week with a full side and coming together like we should when it matters most,” Cohuna coach Georgia Anderson said post-match.

“The girls have clicked and our attack end is showing promise in the goal ring.

“All over the court we had great defensive pressure and we had to play the space as not a lot of contests were awarded.”

While it was another strong performance from the Kangas, it was a disappointing result for Tyntynder despite co-coach Bridget Dedini being pleased with her team’s overall effort after the match.

“Obviously the conditions weren’t great but we were happy with the skills our team displayed,” Dedini said.

“I couldn’t really pinpoint a particular place where we lost the game.

“We rotated through quite a bit as we had a few girls recovering from illness, but we thought the girls adapted well to changes.”

Young midcourters Milla Nalder and Kieley Styles combined well in the centre for the Bulldogs to be among their team’s better players, while bookends Carly Geary (goal keeper) and Carla Walker (goal attack) were the best for Cohuna.
