Kangas control game

THE Cohuna Kangas continued their late season push towards a top five finish with a commanding 13-goal win over Balranald on Saturday.

It was the second quarter where the Kangas did the most damage, outscoring the Roos 10-goals to five for the term to set up an eight-goal lead at half-time.

From there, Cohuna never relented, going on to defeat Balranald 42-29 and climb to sixth on the ladder, with only percentage now keeping them outside the top five.

“We had a great start and maintained control for the whole game,” Cohuna coach Georgia Anderson said after the match.

“They (Balranald) have some solid players back and defensively they were strong, so we had to make sure we really utilised every opportunity.

“We came into the game knowing we had to win, there was no other option.

“Every minute matters to us and every game does as well, but the girls are connecting and feeling confident.

“We were so good defensively, the one percenters were everything for us and we capitalised on it all and it showed with the score.”

Cohuna goal shooter Danni Bird was best on for the Kangas, along with Lilly Guerin, while Jess Parry and Bonnie Jolliffe worked hard in defence for the Roos.

FINAL WHISTLE

COHUNA 42
BALRANALD 29
