King continues as mayor

COUNCILLOR Stuart King has been re-elected Mayor of Swan Hill Rural City Council with Cr Les McPhee elected deputy mayor at a council meeting on Tuesday.

Cr King was unopposed for a second consecutive one-year mayoral term after being nominated for the role by Cr Terry Jennings.

“I would like to thank the current group of councillors for your confidence in me and for the nomination,” Cr King said.

“It is a real honour and privilege to undertake this position and I will go to the best of my ability to represent my council well.”

Cr King was first elected to the council in 2020 and became deputy mayor in 2022.

He was elected mayor for the first time in November last year after Cr McPhee stood down from the role.

Cr King said he was excited to work on key projects and welcome new investments for the region, prioritising housing, water and infrastructure.

“With my experience in agriculture, engineering and business, I am dedicated to collaborating with our CEO Scott Barber and directors to strengthen our municipality’s core infrastructure, including roads and drainage, while fostering investment and unlocking development opportunities,” he said.

“I am committed to showcasing our municipality as a thriving region open for business, with a proactive approach to supporting growth and innovation.

“I will continue to advocate strongly to higher levels of government for fair funding allocations and to address critical issues like the housing crisis, water, improved facilities and infrastructure, and greater connectivity.”

Cr McPhee was also elected unopposed in the deputy mayor vote after being nominated by Cr Lindsay Rogers.
