WORDS FROM THE MAYOR

WE have released new concept designs and details on the two possible locations for Our Place in Swan Hill.I encourage anyone interested in this new building to get online and give us your thoughts.

This new building will house the art gallery, visitor information service, the Pioneer Settlement entrance and a new Aboriginal cultural experience.

We are building it with federal government and council funding, with a view to co-located services and creating a new experience for visitors and locals.

There are two site options that we’re asking people to give us their views on – one inside the Pioneer Settlement, one outside where Spoons is now.

Both options have a reception, gift shop, education space and an Aboriginal cultural space on the ground floor, and the gallery and rooftop garden upstairs.

In option two, the ground floor also includes a restaurant space in place of Spoons. So far, we’ve received about 200 responses to our online survey.

It is great to see people taking an interest and providing us with some really constructive ideas and opinions on the two options.

If you haven’t done so already, there are four ways to tell us your views:

1. You can complete the survey at our website – it has taken people an average of seven minutes to complete, so it’s not a huge amount of time to commit.

2. You can chat to us online – head to the council website during business hours to ask a question or provide feedback about Our Place — just click on the blue speech bubble at the bottom of the page and type your question or comment to start.

3. Call 5036 2333 during business hours and ask to speak to someone about Our Place. If you want to speak to the project team outside of business hours, send an email to candis.fraser@swanhill.vic.gov.au or call 5036 2333 to nominate a preferred time.

4. You can give us your feedback at our website at any time – there’s a special section to do that.

We’ve looking for feedback before June 1, and then all that feedback will be collated, and councillors will look to make a decision on the location in early July.

Everything you need know is at www.swanhill.vic.gov.au/ourplace.Coronavirus restrictions

WE are still seeing the details of this week’s coronavirus changes coming through, but the Premier has been clear.

This pandemic is still on. We must keep social distancing and hygiene up, we must stay cautious and safe.

The changes announced as of Wednesday include that you can now visit family and friends with a limit on five visitors to a home at once, and that face-to-face school will gradually return for Victorian students from May 26.

Numbers of people allowed at things like funerals, weddings and outdoor recreation have increased slightly as well.

The state government will release more information on the changes to give us more certainty, and will make more announcements about other changes.

Keep an eye on www.dhhs.vic.gov.au/coronavirus for up to date information on the restrictions.
