Whistle called on season

Football and netball season gone

BUGGER, this was the Mighty Swans’ year.

In the footy, we recruited well, we got them fit.

The Might Magoos were looking good. And our old survivor, Pearsy, would not have finished his career on 699 senior games.

Last year’s grand final would have been his 700th senior game.

What a way to finish off.

CUB shares would have jumped 10 per cent or more, but unfortunately it was not to be.

He still may pull his boots on for just one more.

As far as our netballers went, we were also in for a big year because they kept most of our players from their very successful year last year.

Unfortunately, this cannot happen either.

There may be some junior games of footy organised in August or September, depending on the rules.

Thank you from our town and district to all those that stood up to lead our Mighty Swans to a fantastic year that unfortunately never happened.

We had 20-20 vision. I do not know about the eyesight of the rest of the clubs.

Philanthropists wanted

OUR Edward River Gardens nursing home in Moulamein is having a few troubles financially.

This fantastic facility was fully funded to build by local donations.

Not one cent was needed from the government to get this very import facility up and going in our very fortunate town.

A man called Len Flotman was the major contributor to the project, giving millions of dollars to get this great facility built and to fund the ongoing cost to keep it going.

Another great contributor was an ex-local called Stumpy Doran.

Due to the current financial problems of the world, Flottie’s (Len Flotman) investments cannot keep up with the cost of running our great asset, the Edward River Gardens nursing home.

The Edward River Gardens is a fully tax deductible charity and is well worth a consideration if you have a few quid to get rid of before the end of June.

I still remember Old Flotty telling me how good this nursing home was before he moved into it, but had already funded the nursing home.

“If I keep the money, I get 52 cents in the dollar. If I give it to the hostel, I get 48 cents back in the dollar. It’s only costing me four cents.”

Not a bad deal he reckoned.

Before the end of June or any other year, our Edward River Gardens is well worth a look if you would like to keep a fantastic facility going.

When I get old, I am defiantly moving into our local nursing centre.

They do not come any better for caring for their clients.

They treat them more like family than clients.

Back open again

I WENT out to our Moulamein Bowling Club on Friday night.

It was good to get out and talk to different people again.

Everyone seemed to be keeping their distances from each other while they were still having a good time.

The beer was good, the meals were excellent and the company was good to catch up with.

We ran the meat raffles while we kept our social distancing.

I know that I definitely kept my social distancing from winning a prize.

Met a few new people, drank keg beer, had a great meal and caught up with a few locals and visitors.

How much better can it get. We may never go back to normal, but at least we are getting close to it in the bush.

COVID-19 testing

BY the time you read this, it will be to late to get a very long cotton bud up your nose to get tested.

It came to town this week and let’s hope there were no positive tests.

After introducing a few different campers to each other on the long weekend, I still cannot believe the amount of people that still shake hands and maybe give a cuddle to anyone, let alone people they do not know.

As far as I am concerned, these days are gone.

Say “G’day”, an elbow rub, if I know you, maybe.

But, keep your distance from me.

This is the new world. Except for my grandkids, they will always get a cuddle. But only if they want to.

River levels

THE Edward has started to drop very slowly at just over 1.5 metres and just below 1400 megalitres a day.

The Edward will continue to drop until we get some more rain in our catchments.

I have heard of some yellers getting caught before the big drop of our rivers over the weekend but bugger all after that, could even give a worm away one fella told me.

Unfortunately, there is only just over 700 megalitres below Stephens Weir.
