Ordinary meeting outcomes
AT its ordinary meeting on Tuesday, councillors considered a rescission motion regarding the site for the new Our Place building.
Councillors resolved to proceed with the construction of the Our Place building at site option one inside the Pioneer Settlement.
This decision will still require the retention of the windmill and locomotive on the Pioneer Settlement grounds and that an investigation of the required repair works for the Pental Island Bridge is undertaken.
Council will now commence work to determine options to relocate the locomotive and windmill and begin this consultation process.
Detailed designs will now be developed and further community consultation will take place once they are completed.
At this meeting, council also adopted the budget for 2020/21 and a proposal to hold COVID-friendly events in our regional towns as well as a major event in Swan Hill as part of the region’s COVID recovery.
The Robinvale Housing Strategy Action Plan, to implement the Robinvale Housing Strategy, was also adopted.

Tighter border restrictions
NEW border restrictions between New South Wales and Victoria are now in force.
This includes the establishment of border zones along the Murray River.
These border zones include Swan Hill and Murray Downs, Nyah, Tooleybuc and Robinvale.
If you are unsure whether you’re in a border zone, you can check by going to www.service.nsw.gov.au.
Border zone residents with a permit will only be able to cross the NSW/Victorian border zone for work or education if you can’t work or learn from home, or to obtain medical care, supplies or health services.
If you’re in the border zone and need to travel between the two states, you will need to apply for a new permit.
All previous permits to travel between the two states are now expired.

Parking meters to remain off
IN light of the current COVID-19 situation parking meters will remain off, we will continue to monitor this situation.
Remain vigilant
WITH the rise in COVID-19 case numbers in metropolitan Melbourne and an active case in the Swan Hill region, it’s a reminder to remain vigilant when it comes to this pandemic.
Remember to keep social distancing, make sure you wash your hands regularly and if you are unwell, stay at home.
The state government is also encouraging people in regional and rural areas to wear face masks where you can’t keep 1.5 metres from others.
Bromley Road landscaping
LANDSCAPING works on Bromley Road will start next week, bringing together the entire Bromley Road Beautification Project.
Council has engaged Whitfield Excavations to carry out the landscaping works, which will include removal of rocky and stony fill, installation of drainage around the perimeters of the medians as well as irrigation.
The landscaping will include a series of garden beds and plantings.
Featuring lemon-scented gums, plantings have been selected with consideration for growth and traffic sight distance, durability, our climate, allergies and aesthetics including seasonal colours and textures.
The zone near the Rural Life Museum will include turf and additional concrete paths near the playground.
Garden beds in the medians of the Perrin and Herbert Street intersections have been designed to feature vibrant colour, including red crepe myrtles, with attractive understorey plantings. Please note that during the landscape works, there will be some traffic control in place only to the extent needed for site safety.
The works are expected to be completed by mid-September.
