COVID-19 business and mental health support

OBVIOUSLY, stage three restrictions will continue to have a huge effect on our local businesses.

In this current rapidly changing environment, council wants to make sure local businesses have access to the latest reliable information.

Please feel free to contact our economic development unit for information and assistance by phoning 5032 3033 or emailing ecodev@swanhill.vic.gov.au.

Business Victoria also has a dedicated COVID-19 Hotline on 13 22 15, and also has a number of dedicated online resources for businesses.

To find out more, go to business.vic.gov.au and click on the link to ‘Coronavirus business support’ from the site’s front page.

The page includes a number of links; including business financial support programs, as well as staying physically and mentally well in the workplace.

It’s also important to make sure you are looking after your mental health.

Although we can’t visit people, it’s essential to support those around us and check in. This could be a phone call, a text, a message through social media or a video chat.

The Department of Health and Human Services also has a number of resources, tips and advice to help you stay safe and well.

Visit www.dhhs.vic.gov.au/coronavirus and click on the mental health resources link.

Marking 75 years since the end of WWII

TOMORROW will be 75 years since the end of World War II for Australians – marking what’s now known as Victory in the Pacific Day.

Some one million Australians served in the Second World War, overseas and on the home front, to protect our nation.

Victory in the Pacific or VP Day is commemorated annually in Australia and around the world.

The Victorian Government is encouraging Victorians to commemorate the day and pay tribute to the service of World War II veterans from our homes.

An online ceremony will be hosted by RSL Victoria and the Shrine of Remembrance on their Facebook pages from 11.20am on VP Day.

There will also be a number of online exhibitions to mark the day.

For a full list of what’s happening, visit www.vic.gov.au/75th-anniversary-end-world-war-two-wwii.

The Swan Hill Regional Library is also photographing and recording World War II items for its collection for the Swan Hill Remembers project.

It’s asking community members to provide World War II items for the online project such as war records, letters, photographs, uniforms, medals and memorabilia.

The deadline for items is close of business today.

However, you can submit photos of memorabilia and email it with information on the item/s to library@swanhill.vic.gov.au up to Monday.

The photos need to be clear and taken on a light background for inclusion in the online exhibition.

The names and details of people sending photos and information about the items will be kept confidential.
