Moulamein notes: August 21, 2020

Future of the Moulamein Football Netball Club

BECAUSE of COVID, and lack of population, our club is at a crossroads and now is your opportunity to have your say.

We are looking for coaches across all grades of football and netball.

The possibility of a merger has also been put forward and is up for discussion.

There will be a community meeting held at our complex tomorrow at 2pm.

I can only encourage anyone that would like to help our club head in the right direction to please turn up.

There may not even be a season next year, and there may not even be a league to be in after COVID-19 finishes with us.

Increased allocation

ALL I keep writing about at the moment is good news.

This is just not normal, but I hope it keeps going.

Today, us lucky buggers on the Murrumbidgee system gained another 16 per cent of the water that we own.

That brings us to 32 per cent of what we own.

There may be a few more growing rice in our district.

We even have a couple of more days of off-quota on the way.

We should get that about September 14 unless we get extra rain before it gets here.

Nothing happens fast in our Billabong Creek. Even my mates in the NSW Murray system got an increase.

They are now at 8 per cent of what they own.

This is a great sign for our district as a little bit of common sense may be creeping back into the water job.

More rain

OUR Moulamein district copped another 12mm or so last week.

This took the falls of the last rain event to just over two inches in the old scale.

Could not happen to a better district, and it was just in time.

I am sure that every farmer in the district appreciates it. Even those that used their off-quota.

There is even more rain forecast for this week, it just keeps getting better and better.

Jack’s forecast is pretty well coming into fruition.

Rain in April, average winter rainfall and minor floods in the Murrumbidgee catchment. Maybe I will have to start to listen to my son-in-law.

I know of two paddocks called Jack’s paddocks because the owner fertilized them as irrigation paddocks not dryland because of Jack’s forecast.

I keep telling everyone, this is Jack’s hobby so please do not rely on them too much.

So far so good for these two Jack’s paddocks.

Bowls tournament

Our Moulamein Bowling Club has its September Classic Tournament coming up on September 19 and 20.

Unfortunately, due to our dreaded COVID-19, we have had to postpone this great event.
