Moulamein Notes: November 6, 2020

More water

THINGS seem to have changed for the better with the water job.

We have had another increase in how much of the water that we own that we can actually use.

My mates on the NSW Murray have gone up a whopping 10 per cent to 36 per cent of what they own.

Us more fortunate on the Murrumbidgee system have gone up 4 per cent to a staggering 58 per cent of what we own.

We are also looking at one day of off-quota on the way.

One of our weirs has gone up 10 per cent in a week and is now sitting at 91 per cent full.

After the run that us southern irrigators have had, this is great.

My crow eating mates did not get any more water. They sit on their usual, miserable 100 per cent of what they own.

If it a drought or a flood, my crow eating mates still only get their 100 per cent.

I will have to look into this to see if we can change it for them.

We may struggle for any more increases unless it is very wet because from now on those in charge will start to put water aside for next year.

We wait in anticipation.

Farewell for Ian and Ray James

EVERY good thing must come to an end and unfortunately Ian and Ray are moving on to Mildura.

Mildura’s gain is our loss, unfortunately.

We will be having a bit of a get together to say farewell on November 14 at our Moulamein Bowling Club from around 7pm onwards.

It will be nothing fancy, just a good time for all those that have been involved with the James in all the community work they have done in our town since they have been here.

Or if you just know them and would like to say farewell, meals will be available so we would like to get a rough idea of how many will be coming due to COVID as well as catering. Please ring our club on 5887 5207 to book in.

With all Ian and Ray have done in our little town, it could be a big night, so get in early.

What a week in bowls

OUR division four mob had the long trip to Manangatang this week.

It is a good thing I am still holding on to my spot in division one by my finger nails as I owe that mob over there a feed of yabbies from last year.

We had three virgin players in our side as well as a sub from Manangatang. Thank you for that.

After a pretty rough start, our team got one rink up, one down. Up overall. Well done.

Our division one went to Swan Hill. It was a battle all day. Doreen’s mob finished early six up.

Peter’s mob had a battle all day and finished to far down for Clarkey to cover it for a win overall. Last end, all even, all looked good until they put it in the ditch and it looked like they were holding shot. Could old Chokey do it?

Two bowls to go, just have to stay on the green bit a metre or so from the kitty.

First one a bit hard and straight into the ditch. The peanut gallery has finished their game and are all watching.

We cannot win the day, but we can win this rink which is worth two points.

Chokey lets the last bowl of the day go.

The peanut gallery is on their toes while keeping social distancing.

The bowl is heading towards the kitty, will it stop in time?

The peanut gallery holds their breath.

Bugger, it drops into the ditch. One rink up, two down. Down overall.

We still need a few more players as there is always someone away.

We are making bowls fun again.

Football and netball club AGM

OUR footy/netball club needs you to turn up at 2pm on November 8 at our sporting complex for the AGM.

We need a few new hands on deck this year to help keep the Mighty Swans sailing along for the 2021 season and beyond.

OUR Edward is still rising and is around 2.3 metres and 2400 megalitres a day.
