Moulamein notes: December 11, 2020

Cod gone mad

THE cod have gone mad in our Edward River. Most of them are subway cod, but there are a few keepers getting caught as well.

As well as a few oversize that deserve to go back to breed for the future.

The yellers have been quiet in the Edward, but the ever-reliable Billabong is giving a few fishermen a feed.

Our rivers are dropping, but the fish do not seem to care at the moment.

I have heard reports of 30 cod in 24 hours, one keeper. 50 plus cod for the weekend, a couple of keepers.

In the Billabong, 27 yellers and 10 cod, two keepers and a heap of very pregnant female yellers thrown back.

Everyone who has been going fishing is getting a feed or a lot of fun.

This week will be the test to see if it keeps going.

The Edward has stopped dropping and has levelled off at just over 2000 megalitres and just over two metres.

I expect our Edward to start to rise very soon with over 2600 megalitres coming past Stevens Weir.

If the fishing gets any better around Moulamein, you will have to hide behind a tree to bait your hook.

Santa letters

COULD all the kids in Moulamein and surrounding district please get their letter into Santa’s box at the Moulamein Post Office as soon as possible.

Due to the magic of Christmas, there is no stamp required.

Santa is getting very busy this month, so please get in early as possible.

Please do not forget to put your name and address on the back of the envelope kids so Santa can get back to you.

Grand opening of our new tennis courts

THIS great event will be happening on Sunday at 11am.

The unveiling will be at 12 noon followed by a social hit of tennis.

This will also be our tennis club’s Christmas break-up and everyone will be made most welcome.
