Moulamein notes: December 18, 2020

Cod gone a bit quiet

THE cod have quietened down a bit in our Edward River.

The best I have heard from one camp when they were going mad was 192 cod, 15 keepers.

Before everyone jumps up and down about the 15 keepers, there were a lot of fishermen in the camp and I do not think they kept all of the keepers.

I also think someone in the camp also joined the metre-long club.

The Edward has stopped dropping and has levelled off at just over 2000 megalitres and just over two metres.

I expect our Edward has started to rise and is 2.2 metres and around 2300 megalitres, with over 2500 megalitres coming past Stevens Weir.

It could rise at least for the next week.

Grand opening of our new tennis courts

THIS great event happened last weekend.

Our two new synthetic courts and clubhouse were officially opened and named after our two oldest life members.

Court one is the John Shippen Court and court two is the Peter Jackson Court.

A great honour for these two long-time tennis players and well deserved.

‘Jacko’ is 90 next year and ‘Shippo’ is only a few years behind him.

They have been battling it out at our tennis club for almost 70 years.

These courts can be used 12 months of the year and will be a great asset for our town and district.

Mallan X-mas party

THIS annual event will be held at the Mallan Community Hall next Monday.

Oby’s Pizza will be selling their wood fired pizzas to keep you fed on the night.

You will need to bring your drinks, a chair and a bit of cash if you want a pizza.

This has always been a good way to finish the year off so get in touch with Ben on 0429 863 225 to RSVP and for more information.

X-mas wish

THIS may be the last time you hear from me before the fat man in red breaks into your house.

I would like to wish everyone the best for Christmas and may 2021 be a bloody site better than 2020.

We should have known that this was going to be a bad one. But none of us had 20/20 vision.
