Moulamein notes: February 5, 2021

Bring on Helen

EVIDENTLY, Helen Dalton (our state representative) and her staff read my notes to keep an eye on what is happening in Moulamein and district.

I got a call off Helen’s office to find out why our Moulamein lake had run out of water and if it would dry up.

I told the lovely girl that rang me the story of our town lake and our need for water off our Murray River Council.

She told me that Helen would get onto it.

Well, I will be buggered. All of a sudden, the one’s that we needed to talk to about our Moulamein lake came back from holidays and started to return phone calls.

Our president started to get his calls answered.

Unfortunately, our president was too busy driving trucks so I had to meet the man in charge on my own.

We had a very constructive meeting where I was told that he was onto it and the Murray River Council will help us out, if they can with water.

Burning off allowed

PERMITS to burn off are now available.

You can burn from 4pm until midnight.

No timber can be burnt and the usual conditions apply.

This will be reviewed in March, depending on the weather.

Politician storm

LAST week we were going to get wet, very wet according to the forecast, but 4mm is all I got.

Just like a palpitation storm, it was all piss and wind with no result.

We are shearing at the moment. We had sheep in the shed, under the shed.

If someone shore a sheep, we would replace it with another to keep the shed full.

Nothing until we were having a beer after work.

I have a few different sites that I look up to check the weather.

This is the first time they have all got it wrong.

At least I managed to keep all the sheep dry and that is the lamb shearing out of the way.

Supplementary water for the Murrumbidgee

THERE is two days of supplementary water on the way for the Murrumbidgee River.

I cannot ring Paul Fitzpatrick yet as our Billabong Creek is not on the list to get water yet.

For those that know what me and Paul do to each other, they will understand.

Pointy end of bowls

WE got to the finals of division two last year. This year we went to division one for a challenge.

Unfortunately, we will end up on the bottom of the ladder, but we still have to play two of the top sides to finish our season off.

We cannot go anywhere, but we are still after a couple of wins to finish the season off.

Our mighty division four still have a slight chance of making the four.

Both teams away this week, but both teams at home for the final home and away for the season.

What a great way to finish off.

Let’s make it a big night. We may not raise the rafters at our age, but at least we can raise a few glasses.

River levels

THE Edward is pretty steady at the moment at almost 2500 megalitres a day and just over 2.3 metres.

Fish have been quiet, but if you put the time in you will get a feed.
