Moulamein Notes: 5/3/21

We have a new police woman in town. This will be great as there is nothing like a police presence to keep the locals and visitors from doing stupid things in our little town.

I met her this week, her name is Jess, she is young and from Sydney. I asked her what brought her out to our town and she was one of the many police that were deployed onto the border because of lockdown.

Evidently, there have been a lot of country positions filled since the deployment to the bush as the Sydney and city-based coppers realise that we actually like police out here and we’re not going to hurt them.

Welcome to our town, Jess. Let’s hope the locals behave themselves for you. I do not know much else about Jess, but in our brief meeting, I found out that she has cats and she also loves dogs.

Jess will have friends forever after patting my mixed crew on the back of the ute.

Moulamein FNC Fishing Comp

The Swan Hill Truck Service Cash Classic will be held this weekend. The fish are still biting well around Moulamein, so this could be one of the best catches ever.

Get in quick for tickets as our mate COVID is still around. You still get around five meals, great entertainment and a bloody great weekend. Just for doing something that you love. You may take home a heap of cash.

Looking forward to seeing you there.

More water

The water job cannot get better than this. We privileged few on the Billabong Creek have 100 per cent, like my Crow Eating mates.

However, we are about to get three days of what the Crow Eaters can’t get. We privileged few on the Billabong have got three days of supplementary water coming next week.

This is a great time to get a bit of extra water, and it is always a great time to get what my Crow Eating mates cannot get.

Cure for Swallows

I had a problem when the swallows moved into the shearing shed in the off season. They soiled everywhere.

Because my young bloke was home, we had to delay the knocking down of the nests until the newborn could fly.

After that, I went into the $2 shop and bought a few plastic snakes and hung them off the roof rafters. At the moment, no swallows.

Then a few dozen swallows moved into one of my pump sheds. Soiled everywhere the dirty little buggers. It looked like someone had got a source bottle full of ‘you know what’ and sprayed my pump shed.

Relocated one of the shearing shed snakes. The problem seems to be gone at the moment. Unfortunately, from past experience. Plastic snakes do not work on sparrows.

River levels

The Edward seems to have levelled off at the moment at almost 1,500 megs a day and just under 1.7 metres.

There is a rise on the way. It may get here for our Football-Netball Club Swan Hill Truck Service Cash Clasic on the long weekend March 6 and 7.

Sometimes the fish bite better just before the rise. Fish are still biting ok, most of them may be only subway cod, but there are a few good ones getting landed as well.

It should be good. If it gets any better for our footy-netball fishing comp you will have to hide behind a tree to bait your hook.

All I can say is bring it on. I never go out on a limb, but with the way the fish are biting even before the rise, this will be the most fish ever caught at our competition.

This year could be history in the making.
