Words from the Mayor: 23/4/21

A message from the Mayor Bill Moar Funding for new library van welcomed ON behalf of Council, I’d like to thank Member for Northern Victoria Mark Gepp, who last week announced $267,050 from the Victorian Government’s Living Libraries Infrastructure Program towards the purchase and fit-out of a new mobile library van for Swan Hill.

The funding will enable Council to replace the older mobile library van, providing better library services to our communities including Beverford, Lake Boga, Manangatang, Ultima and Woorinen.

The new van will also include a portable veranda that can be set up for outdoor events and activities.

The new van will allow our Swan Hill libraries to offer more programs and activities on visits to rural communities, expand the home delivery service for older people and attend more community events. Council is also making a contribution towards the new mobile library. Additional OOSH care funding I’D also like to thank the Member for Northern Victoria for his announcement earlier this month regarding funding for Lake Boga Primary School and Swan Hill North Primary School to establish a new out of school hours (OOSH) care service.

The schools are among 53 across the state to share in more than $4.1 million in grants to establish a new OOSH care service from Term 3 this year.

The schools will receive up to $75,000 per year over the next four years for their OOSH care service. This funding will help alleviate the current pressure on Council’s OOSH service, which is welcome news for families across our municipality. Technology expo coming to town THE newest and most innovative engineering industry products will be on show at the Swan Hill Town Hall PACC at an expo hosted by the Institute of Instrumental Control and Automation Australia (IICA).

To be held from 2pm to 6.30pm on Wednesday, May 5, the free technology expo is a rare opportunity for people to view the newest and best products on the market.

The expo will feature more than 32 national, international and local exhibitors for an afternoon of networking and cutting-edge developments in the instrumentation control and automation industry.

Everyone involved in the engineering field are encouraged to come along and learn about solutions to suit their businesses, tap into the minds of experts, and take the opportunity to network with like-minded people.

To register for this free CovidSafe event please visit bookings.iica.org.au/bookings. You can also find out more by visiting www.iica.org.au or calling 0425 824 508. Pre-purchased tickets still valid IF you have a pre-purchased ticket for an event in 2020 at the Swan Hill Town Hall PACC that was postponed due to COVID-19, your tickets are still valid.

The venue’s staff are working hard behind the scenes to ensure all ticket holders are contacted.

Additionally, with the recent easing of COVID-19 restrictions, the Swan Hill Town Hall PACC is also now able to offer more tickets to upcoming events. For more information about upcoming shows and purchasing tickets, visit www.swanhilltownhall.com, visit the Swan Hill Town Hall box office, or call 5036 2384. Lest we forget THIS Sunday, April 25, we pause to remember the sacrifice, commitment and devotion of those who served so courageously for our country.

We remember the men and women, including from our own local communities, who have served our nation in all wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations, and those who continue to serve today.

For a list of Anzac Day commemoration services locations, including those in the Swan Hill municipality, visit www.rslvic.com.au/anzac-day/commemorate-locally.

You can also participate from your home by lighting a candle and standing in your driveway, on your veranda or in your living room at 6am to observe a minute’s silence.

The Dawn Service will also be live streamed on Anzac Day via the Shrine of Remembrance’s website www.shrine.org.au
