Moulamein Notes with China Gibson September 3

COVID passes through Tooleybuc

THIS is how close this mongrel disease can get to us in the flick of an eye.

Evidently, a truckie that later tested positive called into Lucky Phil’s Budget Rite & Take Away in Tooleybuc to get a taste of “Lucky Phil’s” delights.

Unfortunately for Tooleybuc and district he was Covid positive.

Let’s hope everyone in the district that called into Lucky Phil’s cafe on that day has got this message and isolated until they get their negative result.

We do not have this dreaded bloody thing out here yet.

But this is how easy it can happen – one traveller.

Someone comes back from working in the mines and you go around and have a beer with him.

Then there is a positive case in that workforce.

‘Let’s get together for a few beers’ we say, because there is no Covid out here.

Do you know where all these people have been?

Do you know who these people have been in contact with in the last few days?

We all know it is a pain in the a**.

But – let your guard down, and we are no better than those dickheads in Sydney that will not stay at home.

Stay home, stay safe and keep your distance if you do something against the law.

We are all in this together and we just have to our little bit and stay safe out here in the bush.

Hope for the season yet

WITH our season going to shit, we may still have hope according to an old wives’ tale.

The theory always was that once the barley grass has gone to head, the season is stuffed.

One thing about the barley grass this year, it is not going to head.

The barley grass is dying that quick because of the lack of moisture and the warm weather we are having at the time of writing.

It will not have a chance to put a head out.

Is this a good thing or a bad thing?

The barley grass has not gone to head so the season is not finished if your glass is half full.

We will see what this rain does on Friday that is forecast.

We could have to re-write an old wives’ tale.

Footy-netball

UNFORTUNATELY for those that put in a power unit of work for every club in our district this year, it is all over.

The fat lady has sung. Covid stuffed another season.

Well done to all those that stood up for our Moulamein Football Netball Club this year and brought us back from a takeover bid from another club to keep our proud name going for another year.

To amalgamate our club with another was worth a look, and maybe worth another look in the future but not just yet.

After this year there could be quite a few footy-netball clubs fold, as it is just getting too hard.

Well done to all those that stood up and put in a sh*tload of work to keep our small but proud Moulamein Football Netball Club going and very successful until our friend Covid stuffed the season.

Lets all go and bump an umpire

WHAT happened this week in the AFL has put umpiring back 20 years.

We cannot get club umpires.

We cannot get league umpires.

Without umpires, we do not have footy or netball.

Last weekend we have a dickhead like Toby Green run towards and umpire abusing him.

Makes contact and runs off, still abusing him.

The AFL should grow some balls and appeal this bullsh*t three-week suspension or there will be less poor b*stards that want to put their hand up to umpire.

I have never heard of a d*ckhead like Toby Green until this week.

For the good of the game, I should not hear his name for at least eight weeks of footy.

In my opinion, he crossed the line big time.

Photo competition will continue

OUR Gallery Girls are holding their amateur photo competition again this year with $700 up for grabs.

The categories are:

1. Open: “In a Paddock”

2. Black & White: “Patterns in Nature”

3. Children’s under 14 years: “Wheels”

This should give everyone something to work on.

Entries close on Thursday September 30.

Presentation will be at 6pm Friday October 1, Covid permitting.

The exhibition will on show until Friday October 29.

I know you think it is a long way away, but, you need to get onto it now.

For more information, please ring Joy on 0488380470 or Sandy on 0422849562.

River levels.

OUR Edward is dropping slowly at around 3,500 megs.

Cod season has now finished, so no taking of any cod until December.

Let’s hope breeding season has started for them, if the native fish do not breed this year, they never will.
