A Message from the Mayor November 5

Farewell to a notable CEO

I WOULD like to take this opportunity to formally and publicly farewell our outgoing CEO, Mr John McLinden.

John has been an outstanding leader for our municipality and has made a significant contribution over the last five years.

John has been a passionate advocate for our broader community, helping to drive numerous initiatives such as the Riverfront Master Plan, increased consultation with small towns, improved local infrastructure, better planning facilities in Robinvale and continued advocacy with the State and Federal Government.

John has played a key role in advocacy campaigns such as the introduction of the Ag Visa, Robinvale Population Determination study, Swan Hill Needs a New Hospital campaign and a replacement bridge at Swan Hill.

John’s leadership skills, coupled with his practical approach to problem solving and his ability to create rapport with colleagues at all levels, has led our Council through an incredible period of growth and leaves the organisation well placed to tackle the challenges of the future.

On behalf of my councillor colleagues past and present, I extend my thanks to him for his outstanding leadership and my sincere best wishes to John and his family for the future. My last Mayoral ColumnMANY of you would be aware by now that I am not re-nominating for the mayoral role at the Statutory Meeting of Council on 16 November.

I would like to thank the community for their support during my time as Mayor.

The past two years have been years like never before, I admire the way in which our communities have banded together during these unprecedented times.

I look forward to seeing the way in which communities and local businesses take our next step forward as we begin our recovery phase and once again welcome visitors back to our beautiful region.

I wish to acknowledge the support I have received during my time as Mayor, from my fellow Councillors, Council’s CEO, Directors and the staff, I thank each of you for your assistance.

I would like to acknowledge staff in particular Sharon Lindsay and the Media and Communications team.

They had the task of making sure I was in the right place at the right time and saying the right things – not always an easy task!

I would especially like to thank my wife Annie for the support she has given me over the years, and I look forward to spending more time together.

It has been a privilege and honour to be Mayor of the Swan Hill Rural City Council.

I wish the incoming Mayor all the best and I will continue to represent the entire community as a Councillor to the best of my ability.

Once again, thanks to all.Vaccination rates to be proud ofTHIS week our municipality ticked over the 95% double dose vaccination rate – what an incredible effort.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank each and every one for rolling up their sleeve – this is something we should really be proud of!

If you have not yet received your vaccination or you are still reluctant, I urge you to seek advice from your GP.Outdoor pools reopeningWARMER weather is now upon us and our outdoor pools have started to reopen.

Robinvale’s outdoor pool opened on Saturday October 30 and Swan Hill’s outdoor pool with open on Saturday November 13.

We hope families enjoy using our facilities over the summer period – but remember to slip, slop and slap.
