Around the Churches November 19

ANGLICAN

THERE are two more Boot and Craft Sales before Christmas, and today there’s an opportunity for some extra volunteers to help with setting up at 2pm for tomorrow’s market – and to have first look at any likely bargains.

The remaining items after the sale will be left in the hall until Sunday.

After morning tea on Sunday at 11am there will be a working bee to sort, repack, and store for the last Sale on Saturday December 18.

Many larger pre-loved items may be purchased on Saturday at the rear of Anglicare – another good spot to browse before the holidays.

Mothers Union (MU) had their AGM on Wednesday, when nearly twenty shared a catered lunch, giving thanks for being able to keep their worldwide prayer fellowship alive through COVID-19.

MU has four million members across eleven zones on our planet earth.

The Bendigo Diocesan president is Reverend Andrew Howe, and there are many male clergy and laity in MU’s inclusive membership.

Members of our local branch meet monthly from February to November, but many also catch up at Wednesday morning services.

Swan Hill and district has many Christian congregations with various names, all following the teaching of Christ. When Anglican churches are consecrated they are usually named for the significant date of that day – for example, All Saints Nyah West celebrated all the saints past and present two weeks ago.

November 30 marks St Andrew, together with his brother Peter, who were called by Jesus to “Follow Me”.

The day after Christmas is consecrated to Saint Stephen, the first Christian martyr.

This Sunday, Anglicans will celebrate the festival of Christ the King and our local church being Christ Church takes it name from the festival.

(Not to be confused with Churches of Christ, known here as The Grain Shed.)

And to students sitting exams, may the peace of Christ be yours.

THE GRAIN SHED

A GIFT opens the way and ushers the giver into the presence of the great’. Proverbs 18:16

A big thank you to all who have participated in the Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child Shoebox appeal.

The boxes have left Swan Hill and are now making their way to bless children around the world.

It is so lovely to see goods and donations already coming in for our Christmas hamper operation.

If you would like to be part of this and would like more information please contact us on 5032 9449 or on our website www.thegrainshed.org.au.

(All financial donations are tax deductible).

The Christmas tree is up in the foyer and is empty as we partner with Anglicare again.

Please help us to overflow this tree with gifts for those less fortunate in our local community, making their Christmas something special.

Tonight all are welcome to join us for the recording of our online sermon at 5pm.

Our Grain Shed Youth then meet here at 7pm.

Please book for our Sunday services, 9.30am or 11am at reception@thegrainshed.org.au or call us.

Pastor La’Mont will be sharing God’s word and enlightening us.

Monday’s Mainly Music welcomes mums/carers with their little one who are still to young for school.

From 9.30am to 11am there will be music, morning tea and play time.

On Thursday at 10am our Craft Ladies get together with a good coffee and some stitching projects.
