A Message from the Mayor December 10

Shop locally this Christmas

IT’S hard to believe we are already in the midst of another silly season, once again.

I urge each of you to please support local this year.

I mentioned this in my previous column but I will never get tired of sharing this important message – always think locally first, our local businesses survival depends on each of us.

Tower Hill

WE saw a record sellout when Tower Hill’s stage 13 was released recently.

The subdivision included 17 lots, of varying sizes.

The increase in interest for blocks like these has prompted us to fast track the next stage.

Tower Hill’s stage 14 is set to be released in early 2022.

Internet of Things (IoT)

WE have joined forces with three other Mallee councils to trial Internet of Things (IoT) technology to inform decision-making and improve operational efficiencies.

Mildura, Buloke, Gannawarra and Swan Hill councils are participating in the 12-month Smart Cities project, which runs until June 2022.

The trial will utilise sensors that capture data about how different assets and sites are used – 46 trial devices will be installed across the four council areas, including people counters, water depth sensors, public litter bin sensors and soil moisture monitoring

.Local Roads and Community Infrastructure (LRCI) program

A NUMBER of exciting projects are one step closer to reality with the Federal Government allocating $2,868,316 funding under the third phase of the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure (LRCI) program.

Projects include:

– The Farmer – Swan Hill Art Gallery;

– Nyah West Toilet block renewal;

– Robinvale Leisure Centre car park and internal fit-out;

– Swan Hill Leisure Centre – heated water supply for the pool and pool plant renewal;

– Swan Hill Town Hall exterior refurbishment;

– Lake Boga southern entrance beautification project;

– And the McCallum Street footpath’s stage 1 of the number 9 channel.

The BIG Summer Read

THE BIG Summer Read is coming to our local libraries, this summer.

It’s a statewide reading program aimed at addressing an identified phenomenon known as the “summer slide,” which refers to the loss of literacy skills over the summer holidays.

The BIG Summer read will run from Wednesday December 1 2021 to Monday January 31 2022.

The first 100 children to register will receive a Summer Reading Club kit.

There is no limit to the number of children who can join and all participants have a chance to enter the major prize draw to be held in February.

To find out more call the library on 5036 2480.

Summer Music Sessions

COUNCIL has recently launched live music pop ups for the summer season.

Our summer music sessions will be popping up in Swan Hill, Robinvale and Lake Boga, and are expected to add some extra entertainment and enjoyment this summer.
