Plan for recovery and rebuild

THIS week we launched our campaign to fast-track Victoria’s recovery and rebuilding.

And we have worked hard to keep it as simple and understandable as possible.

Because getting us back on track is not rocket science, it is simply identifying the legacies we have been left by two years of botched COVID management and dealing with them one by one.

The Liberals-Nationals framework for the future is based on:

– No more lockdowns: We were the hardest hit state in Australia even though we did everything asked of us. No recovery will succeed without the safety net of knowing there will be no more lockdowns.

– Slashing hospital wait lists and fixing our healthcare crisis: Victorians should not be waiting longer than the clinically recommended time for surgery and fixing the whole healthcare system will be a priority.

– Fix the mental health crisis: This is the collateral damage of the Andrews Labor Government’s pandemic mismanagement and the key to recovery here will be rebuilding Victoria’s mental health workforce.

– Keep our schools open: The entails no school lockdowns, free RATs for all students and staff, air purifiers in every classroom, easy to follow ‘test to stay’ protocols and managing staff shortages and ensure continuity of learning.

– Keep the cost of living down: We will urgently review all Labor’s capital projects over the value of $100 million to ensure taxpayers get value for money and establish a Public Works Committee to better scrutinise major infrastructure projects. We will also guarantee no new taxes and stop wasteful government spending.

– Support business to recover and employ more Victorians: The cornerstone of this pledge is a $2.5 billion Rebuilding Jobs and Bringing Manufacturing Home fund, including $1 billion to boost manufacturing in regional Victoria. We will also reboot our events and truism industries and help businesses employ more people.

That is the first step in our blueprint for success and our plan to help Victoria rebuild and recover.
