WORDS FROM THE MAYOR

International Women’s Day

THIS week we celebrated International Women’s Day (IWD).

On IWD, as well as every other day, I am proud to be part of such an inclusive and progressive municipality.

I am proud to be Mayor and I am thrilled to be joined on Council by fellow women Crs Nicole McKay and Ann Young.

I am delighted to lead a council where women are taking on executive leadership roles, shaking the gender-bias of what have traditionally been male roles and shattering those glass ceilings.

Currently our acting CEO and three out of four of our directors are women, and half our managers are women – how fantastic is that?

I would like to extend my wishes to each and every woman in our region – we celebrate each of you.

Choose kindness

THE past couple of years have brought fear, doubt, and uncertainty into all of our lives, we can all agree that a little bit of kindness can go a very long way.

Bullying occurs at all stages of life and all places whether in the schoolyard, on the street, or on social media.

And now, more than ever, it is imperative that we join the fight to stop bullying and help spread kindness.

So, please, remember when you are out and about in our community and enjoying our wonderful facilities – choose kindness.

Fairfax Youth Initiative 2022

FAIRFAX Youth Initiative is back for 2022 and offering two-hour introductory workshops to schools in the region in Term 2 (from May 16 to May 27).

Council is thrilled to continue supporting and advocating for this youth program.

I take pride in supporting programs that focus on enhancing creativity in young people – it’s a great investment.

The program aims to provide a platform for passionate and diverse young voices, and to share their stories with the world – I really encourage our local schools to jump on board.

Schools can choose from one of three intro workshops to be delivered either in your school or digitally over Zoom.

I AM excited to see events back at the Town Hall and they have a fantastic mix of events coming up this season – music, comedy, dance, circus and shows for all of the family to enjoy!
